The Jump Street movie series has gained immense popularity and a massive fan following due to the series’ ability to blend humor, action, and charm which has made it an evergreen series. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s presence in the film was outstanding as the two heightened the comic elements of the film. The first film was first released in 2012 and was a massive hit that grossed $202.8 million at the worldwide box office, leading to a sequel in 2014, which is equally popular among the fans.

While both films are immensely popular among the people, a third film of the series seems to be impossible. Even though 23 Jump Street was planned, where fans dreamt of a Men in Black crossover with the franchise seems like a far-fetched dream.

The Jump Street and Men in Black Crossover Was Too Ambitious To Begin With

During the Sony Hack back in November 2014, the idea for the next Jump Street sequel was leaked which stated that the franchise wanted to have a crossover with Will Smith’s sci-fi franchise Men in Black. Once the idea was out in the open the expectations from the fans of both franchises rose and it was difficult to meet them. In addition to the expectations, the film struggled to move past the production stage as James Bobin, the attached director had moved on to other projects.

Regardless, the fans still hoped that they would get to see a crossover sequel between Jump Street and Men in Black until Jonah Hill popped the bubble and gave the fans a reality check. During an exclusive interview with Toronto Sun, Hill stated “I had the idea. But I doubt that movie will get made.” He added that the whole crossover idea was too much and it contradicted the idea of what they were doing in the first place, that is mocking the genre.

“It’s too complicated. They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff. The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”

Since both the films mocked the whole idea of buddy cop scenarios, releasing a third film against those principles would have seemed hypocritical and ruined the whole essence of the franchise. Hence, if the franchise wants to make a return, it must think of something else that would be hilarious and capture the very essence of the franchise.

22 Jump Street Stands Out From Other Sequels

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s 22 Jump Street is a popular sequel when compared to the sequels of other popular franchises, which have all tried to do something different. In the process, they ruined the very nature of the film. However, the 2014 sequel was not like that as they decided to do the same thing as before, where they focused more on silly jokes and hilarious dialogues than something mediocre like the plot.

However, the sequel did feature a series of twists, that made a tad bit different. The sequel was full of nuisance, funnier jokes, better-written characters, and improved action scenes, where they nearly managed to find the bad guy, which again was totally accidental. Such features made the sequel stand out among all the sequels present out there and clearly raised the expectations of the fans.
