Demon Slayer presents a plethora of characters which include both demons and demon slayers. Koyoharu Gotouge has created a fierce world where people live in fear of demons but also didn’t forget to flesh out the characters of those who are supposed to be bloodthirsty villains.

This is especially true for the Lower Rank demons under Muzan, each of who had their own motive behind their actions. Most of them are killed by Tanjiro or Muzan himself. But fans wish they had gotten another glimpse of the characters, leading to a debate about whether the demons were killed too soon.

The Twelve Kizuki are the most powerful demons in existence under Muzan, and they are divided into two groups. The first six ranks are called the Upper Ranks, while the later eight are called the Lower Ranks. The numbers assigned to each demon show how strong they are.

Out of the eight Lower Rank demons, only Ubume was never mentioned in the manga and anime series. Fans claim that the seven other Lower Ranks are the one with who Gotouge never did justice. The demons in descending order of their power are Enmu, Rokuro, Wakuraba, Mukago, Rui, Kamanue, and Kyogai.

Most of these demons have a sad backstory attached to them. Enmu was turned into a demon simply by Muzan’s whim. Rokuro and Wakuraba were mercilessly killed by Muzan. Mukago, the most cowardly of the kizukis begged to be spared but had to watch as Muzan killed her. Rui admitted that he was turned into a demon by Muzan and had to kill his own parents. He admitted this after receiving a fatal wound from Giyu.

Kamanue’s loyalty towards Muzan was built out of fear, and was rid of his life when he questioned Muzan. Kyogai was killed by Tanjiro but was happy that the value behind his work was acknowledged before his death. However, most of them died very soon in the series to make way for the Upper Rank demons. Thus, fans wish that their backstories could be explored more.

The Lower Rank Demons Needed More Spotlight

Every Lower Rank demon was killed too soon by the Hashiras or by Muzan himself. Koyoharu Gotouge created wonderful trajectories for their backgrounds but never explored them enough. The flashbacks during the battles were too small and the characters died before fans could even get accustomed to them.

Thus, fans wish they had received more content on the Lower Ranks. If the demons were not killed immediately or if Muzan had spared them, there would have been another arc where they could cooperate to defeat the Hashiras. Yes, killing them off justified Muzan’s horrible nature, but putting another deadline on the demons might have led to a new and exciting battle.

Rather than Muzan killing his own demons, it would have been better if they faced Tanjiro. This would have ensured more battles as well as more backstories on each of them. The victims of Muzan were never properly shown to the audience, so fans found it hard to sympathize with them as well. All in all, Koyoharu Gotouge missed the chance to put the Lower Rank demons in the spotlight.
