With Phase Five of The Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming to an end soon and Phase Six expected to start equally soon by mid-2025, fans are more excited for the sixth movie from the Avengers film series than anything else: Avengers: Secret Wars. Further hyping them up are the constant updates about the movie popping up now and then.
Among these was a recent fan poll held by an X-handle, where it was asked if the controversial Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness director would be a good enough option for helming Avengers 6. And, surprisingly enough, fans do want Sam Raimi to take the lead in helming the film scheduled for 2027.

Ever since Avengers: Secret Wars was announced to be in development, fans have been perking up to hear more details about the cast and the crew for the upcoming film. During this, there have been numerous suggestions as to who could be the best option for helming the movie.
Previously, fans campaigned for the Russo brothers–filmmakers Joe Russo and Anthony Russo–to direct the super-hyped film. But the list has been going on and on for quite some time now, and the Russo brothers weren’t the last names on the list.
Recently, another contender has been added to the list–one who was previously in talks for it as well: Sam Raimi. This was done by @MyTimeToShineH on X through a poll asking fans if the Doctor Strange 2 director would be a good option for directing Avengers 6. The X-handle wrote:
“I love what Sam Raimi does with the camera here. Would you like him to direct Avengers: Secret Wars?”

Although he earned a lot of controversy for the liberties he had while making his MCU directorial debut with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it seems fans want the filmmaker back behind the lenses for the much-awaited film, and that too, for multiple reasons.

Fans Want Sam Raimi To Try His Hand At Secret Wars
Sam Raimi may have been the target of a lot of controversy and backlash by a lot of fans for what he did with Doctor Strange 2, but it seems that fans have truly understood his vision for the film now, considering how they want him back for director Avengers: Secret Wars.
Commenting on the X post, here’s how fans showed their support toward the filmmaker:

Let’s face it!
Sam Raimi is one of the few MCU directors who left their own touch in their MCU movies. Others are just Kevin feige/ other executives’s puppet.
Tarantino was right, Marvel just hires helping hands to direct their movies.— BullyBatsy (@bullyvengeance1) November 24, 2023
Yes. 100%. Even though Multiverse of Madness was good, I think Sam needs a chance at Avengers: Secret Wars

Meanwhile, some other fans are also worried that Raimi might once again fall prey to the backlash because of a lot of barriers that might prevent him from turning Avengers 6 into a masterpiece. Addressing all those issues, some other fans wrote:
Raimi’s directing skills are top-notch, but a movie can still fail if the writing isn’t good or if the studio interferes too much. It’s not his fault for the issues in ‘Spider-Man 3’ or ‘Doctor Strange.

No Disney will sabotage his vision

I hope not. I love him and I’m a huge fan of his Spider-Man trilogy, but Marvel and maybe Disney started interfering too much with the writers stuff and it would be sad if Sam will be criticized for something that wasn’t his idea but they force him do it.

While Sam Raimi indeed seems like a good option for Avengers: Secret Wars, fans’ worries for him are valid as well. Turns out, to make the 2027 scheduled film a masterpiece, it would take a lot more than just a tremendous filmmaker.
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to hit the theatres on the 7th of May, 2027.
