The Suicide Squad films are ones where predicting what will happen next is something that is very difficult to do. Having not only some of the most out-of-pocket characters with unique personalities, but also plotlines that seem ridiculous when actually further looked at, the two films, Suicide Squad, and The Suicide Squad, managed to win the hearts of their audiences. Featuring some extremely big names, actors like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena, the films stand distinctive when put next to the rest of the DC franchise.

Recently, Joel Kinnaman, who played the role of Colonel Rick Flag in both films, spoke out about his reaction to finding out that his character was dying in the second film. This is truly hilarious and very fitting considering what films he was part of and how unserious they are.

Joel Kinnaman Was Surprised When He Found Out About His Death

Joel Kinnaman’s character of Colonel Rick Flag is one that is quite unique and had a very big part to play in the plot of the first film, Suicide Squad, playing the love interest of the villain and a member of Task Force X. On top of this, he also had a hand in helping recruit the entire team in both, the first and the second film. Unfortunately, however, his character was killed off at the end of the second movie, after having a showdown with John Cena’s Peacemaker.

During a recent interview, via PostCredPod, the actor revealed what his first reaction was when the director of the film, James Gunn, told him that his character would be dying.

“Yeah [I was like ‘WTF, James?’].”

He expressed that his immediate reaction was one of complete and utter shock. He revealed that he was asking the director why he was getting killed off and was completely caught off guard.

Joel Kinnaman Found His End in The Suicide Squad To Be Beautiful

During this interview, Joel Kinnaman then went on to talk about what his opinions were about his character’s death, and how it was showcased in the film. He revealed that even though he was confused and shocked at first, the final scene of his death was something that he loved dearly. He explained this was a perfect way for him to say goodbye to the character, and, in his own opinion, it was a good way to go.

“I love that scene though, it was such a good way to go. But, for sure, maybe I’ll come back and play some nasty villain in a couple of years.”

Despite this goodbye, it would seem like the actor is not done with the DC Universe just yet. Finishing this off, he stated that he would love to come back to the franchise in a different way. The way that he mentioned was quite interesting as the actor explained that he wanted to play some sort of villain in the coming years. This would be quite a shift considering even though his character did walk the lines of the morally grey, he was still considered to be the good guy at the end of the day.
