Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was recently appointed as one of the board members of TKO Group Holdings, is going to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. It was expected that the match would be played between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, who, few days back, won the Royal Rumble match. But Rhodes finally decided to face Roman Reign, but not at the upcoming Wrestlemania.
Rhodes came to Friday Night SmackDown this week and said that before making this important decision, he talked with his family, friends, and peers. However, it’s not the first time that Dwyane Johnson has taken iver someone else’s place. It happened earlier as well.
The Rock Set to Replace Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 to Face Roman Reigns
And, it will be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, not Royal Rumble match winner Cody Rhodes, who would be facing Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania this year. By coming victorious at the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row, Rhodes earned his place to face off Reigns, but now he is giving up his spot to none other than The Rock.
Cody Rhodes came this week on SmackDown and made a big announcement. Rhodes said that he would not take away Reigns’s title at WrestleMania. Instead, Rhodes claimed he spoke to a person Reigns knew very well and then appeared The Rock.
Rock shook Rhodes’ hand and hugged him, whispered something in his ear, and Rhodes exited the ring. WWE promoted a WrestleMania 40 press conference for Thursday evening, February 8. in the last moments of the show.
This year’s Wrestlemania will take place on April 6th and April 7th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Financial Field.
Earlier It Was CM Punk Whose Spot Was Taken by Dwayne Johnson
The main event is the final match of the night. And, being one of the greatest, CM Punk never got the chance to wrestle in the main event, though he was close to this multiple times. And one was in 2013 when Dwayne Johnson took his spot.
However, Punk saw this thing from another angle and said during Barstool Sports’ My Mom’s Basement podcast that he actually did main event WrestleMania. he was quite unhappy with The Rock’s involvement then.
“I think the last one I did, was it [WrestleMania] 29? Against Undertaker. Just given all the circumstances leading up to that and everything that happened after it. You know, to me that’s the most defining punk rock moment of my entire career…I was a man f*cking possessed, and I somehow simultaneously didn’t give a f*ck and cared way too much at the same time. And I went out there and I f*cking absolutely destroyed it. And they couldn’t follow me, no matter what they said. People still to this day will be like, ‘Oh you never main evented WrestleMania.’ And I say yes I did. Yes I did. Because it’s that one. You should’ve just packed it up and f*cking went home after that, you know?”
During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Punk confirmed reports that he suffered a torn triceps and will be forced to miss WrestleMania 40. Fans will have to wait how he comes back from this unfortunate injury.
