While Dwayne Johnson might play lots of dramatic characters in his movies, he wasn’t a stranger to drama in WWE either. His feud with fellow wrestler-turned-actor, John Cena, is still crystal clear in the minds of WWE fans. Several years after the feud started, Dwayne Johnson and John Cena were ready for another showdown in the ring which ended up causing The Rock some serious physical and financial troubles. Thankfully, WWE got his back for the latter!

After John Cena called Dwayne Johnson out for leaving the WWE behind and going after Hollywood, Johnson made an appearance at WrestleMania XXVIII and 29 where the two wrestlers were the main event of the night. Although Cena was defeated by Johnson in XXVIII, he took his revenge at WrestleMania 29 and how!

While Cena walked out of the match with a victory, Johnson walked out with broken tendons and hernia tears. Talking to Entertainment Tonight about the aftermath of the fight, Johnson stated,

“About midway through the match, I tore my abductor tendon, as well as my rectus tendon, completely off my pelvis. And then I found out that I had three wonderful hernia tears. There’s a lot of fun swelling in the ‘cash and prizes’ area for the first week and a half. Those were sexy times…It’s a lot of fun pain to go through.”

He still has to face the injuries from the match as owing to the surgery for the above-mentioned ordeal, his abs do not look the same as that of others. In Wired’s Autocomplete Interview, Johnson stated that instead of having the usual six-pack or eight-pack abs, he has “a five-and-a-half pack, sometimes a four-and-a-half-pack” abs.

According to an interview conducted by The Hannibal TV, Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, opened up about how the injuries after his match with Cena cost him a fortune. As the Black Adam actor’s health caused the delay in the filming of one of his films, he lost hundreds of thousands of dollars every day.

“Because the last time, he wrestled Cena at WrestleMania, he got a hernia. And he had to have emergency surgery. They had to shut the set down for three weeks, it cost him two hundred thousand dollars a day.”

Thankfully, his WWE salary made up for the loss as according to a report, Johnson’s 2013 contract with WWE The Rock receives a sum of $5 million annually. While Johnson was last seen playing a match in WrestleMania 32 (2016), if he wishes to come back to his roots, there is a possibility the company might upgrade his annual income. However, it is highly unlikely that he would want to return to his wrestling days as he once swore off taking up jobs that would decrease family time.
