In a surprising twist, Vinnie Jones, famous for playing Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand, turned down the chance to come back as his iconic character in the much-awaited Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fans were buzzing when they heard the 59-year-old said no to being the Juggernaut in Deadpool & Wolverine.
People are speculating, like crazy, about why he said no and what it could mean for the movie. It’s got everyone curious about why Jones decided to pass on the role this time around.
Why Did Vinnie Jones Firmly Decline The Deadpool 3 Offer?
Vinnie Jones turning down the Deadpool 3 gig, has left fans scratching their heads. People are buzzing, wondering why he said no. It turns out that while a bunch of surprise cameos were filmed for the new movie, including Deadpool and Wolverine, Jones didn’t hop on that train.
He first played Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand, but he’s done with that role now. Jones spilled the beans to Yahoo Movies UK, saying he passed on the chance to return as Juggernaut because wearing that suit was a real pain.
He felt disappointed about Juggernaut’s role being shrunk in the past, so he wasn’t keen on going through that again. Even though he liked the idea of being in a Deadpool flick, the offer just didn’t cut it for him. The actor explained in the interview,
“Funnily enough I just got asked to do ‘Deadpool,’ the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically. It had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for ‘Deadpool [and Wolverine].”
With Jones bowing out, it throws an interesting wrench into the hype for Ryan Reynolds Deadpool 3. But it seems like Jones had his reasons, especially considering his not-so-great experience with the X-Men sequel back in 2006.
Vinnie Jones Discussed His Negative X-Men: The Last Stand Experience
Jones recently talked about his not-so-great time during X-Men: The Last Stand. In the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie, we’ll see some familiar faces from the X-Men flicks, but not Jones’.
He played Juggernaut in the past, but he’s not making a comeback. In the same interview, Jones shared how his experience with the 2006 X-Men movie wasn’t what he hoped for. He was excited to work with director Matthew Vaughn, but Vaughn backed out, and things changed.
Jones felt let down when the new director, Brett Ratner, messed with his character’s lines. He didn’t feel the same excitement anymore, seeing his role get cut down while others got bigger. He said,
“The director brought in so many other moving parts… and mine was the [only] one that got diluted, the Juggernaut. It didn’t… you know, I lost all interest quite early, because I knew they were just ticking me along, you know what I mean? I was upset. I was very upset because it was such a [big] movie, such a big stage, and [I] became an extra. That’s what happened.”
Jones even explained how his famous line “I’m the juggernaut, b*tch!” in the movie wasn’t even originally there; it got added later because of something Ratner saw online. The artist explained,
“I was going in going, ‘Where’s all my dialogue? Where’s the storyline?’ Brett had different directors directing, and he would sit there as the big director. For me, it was a shamble. It was a shame… When it came out, I was upset… Very upset… My character got dumped on.”
Despite that moment, Jones felt really let down by how things turned out. It’s a real eye-opener to hear about Jones’ superhero movie journey.
