Elden Ring is arguably one of the most popular titles from FromSoftware. Akin to previous games from the studio, it was a Soulsborne title that took the formula of the subgenre and added an open-world twist to it. As a result, it turned out to be immensely successful.

A title that is thought to be similar to Elden Ring is Enotria: The Last Song. Jyamma Games is developing the title. It was initially reported to come on all significant platforms until the developers decided otherwise, and the title was officially canceled on Xbox.

Xbox cannot catch a break as an Elden Ring-esque Soulslike won’t come to the platform

Enotria: The Last Song is a title with a release date of August 21, 2024. It was initially announced as a title that would be available on all current-gen platforms, i.e., PC, PS5, and Xbox.

Even the title’s release date was changed so as not to conflict with The Shadow of the Erdtree‘s release date. Later, merely five months before its release, news of the title-shifting platforms was broken by an account named Rino(@RinoTheBouncer) on X. The individual who frequently posts news related to video games stated the following:

Understandably, Jyamma games went down this path as the Series S is much less powerful than its premium sibling and the PlayStation 5. So, titles on the Series S are usually shipped with graphical downgrades to ensure optimum performance. But an entire title omitted from Microsoft’s gaming console ecosystem sounds incredibly alarming.

Is this the beginning of the end for Xbox users?

Many argue that the Xbox Series S is slowing the current console generation down.
Many argue that the Xbox Series S is slowing the current console generation.

While most developers tend to ship the title with the standard scaled-down 30 fps mode on the Series S, it is incredibly unusual for a studio to cancel a title and not release it on the Xbox ecosystem entirely.

The problem begins with the optimization process, which takes much longer for the developer to optimize for the Series S, which lacks video memory, processing power, and RAM compared to the other two consoles. Phile Spencer’s console brand also has a policy of mandating a release on either the Series X and Series S or neither.

Considering everything, it is understandable why the game won’t come to Microsoft’s console. Despite that, it is unlikely that this will become a mainstream practice anytime soon as developers are not releasing their titles on the Series S, making for a smaller target audience.

But all of this adds weight to the argument that the Series S was slowing down this generation. What do you think? Do you think Microsoft should have skipped the Series S entirely? Let us know in the comment section below!
