This year appears to be very complicated for the video game industry; many developers are suffering from layoffs. The number of layoffs is alarming, surpassing the total for 2023 in just the first few months of this year. Sony and Microsoft are not in the best situation, with poor sales and few game launches. But Xbox has a one-in-a-million opportunity to really turn the tide and have a pretty good year.

PlayStation has already confirmed that this year the company will not launch any AAA budget titles. This, of course, impacted the company’s stocks, causing a very complicated drop that did not happen for a long time. According to reports, Sony intends to release new games in 2025, including highly anticipated titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and the new Naughty Dog game. Xbox has the opportunity to announce big games and make important releases this year.

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, is really trying to make a different approach to regain the player base that was lost with the launch of the previous console, which gave the Microsoft company almost a complete loss.

The company has a lot of games pending that could really make players come back to the platform; titles like Fable, Marvel’s Blade, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Heart of Chernobyl, and many more have the opportunity to really make a difference.

Microsoft could really take advantage of this and make players return to the platform with Activision titles coming to Game Pass, like Call of Duty, or even make some games exclusive for a limited time.

The upcoming months will be key for both of the largest companies in video games. Sony and Microsoft will have to be very careful about how they manage the next big title launches. Lately, fans have been very exclusive about what games they choose to buy. The big companies must accommodate this and provide titles that will be worth all of the money that players are investing. This is crucial to making fans happy.
