Xbox had seen a drop in fans after leaks and rumors about Xbox going third-party. But in the latest Xbox Direct, Phil Spencer made it clear that Xbox is not leaving the console business. It is just branching out into the multi-platform video game publishing business as well.

This has been met with manifold angry fan reactions that flooded the gaming communities on X, Reddit, etc. A large part of that anger was however not directed at Xbox or Microsoft Gaming. Instead the apparent ‘leakers’ got most of the blame for turning the Xbox community inside out for the sake of clicks and user engagement.

Fan reactions to the Xbox Direct just went on to show, that fans are starting to come to the conclusion that no leak should be trusted until official confirmation, yet again.

Xbox Direct Puts an End To Fan Speculation

The recently concluded Xbox Direct made one thing certain. Although there are four games that are definitely coming to Xbox, Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are not among them. This has led to questions and outrage from fans as they wanted to experience Troy Baker’s Indiana Jones on PlayStation too.

Phil Spencer and Matt Booty’s words regarding the Xbox Game Pass being exclusive to Xbox and all the games under the banner being available from day one of Game Pass effectively ensured the exclusivity of Xbox, at least for now.

Sarah Bond’s announcement regarding the next console that is being prepared by Xbox has left fan opinions divided. While Xbox fans are understandably lauding this announcement, PlayStation fans along with some others have risen in furor as this means that they will not get to play Xbox-exclusive titles on PlayStation like they have been daydreaming.

Fans have been quick to point out that this is not the first time that Xbox has promised something huge. Only the future will tell whether this would be a repeat of history or something historical from Xbox.

However, not all fans are angry. Some are just taking pleasure in the ensuing chaos as they sit back and scroll through social media, presumably with adequate popcorn.

Fan Furor Amidst Bold Step From Xbox

Xbox Direct

The massive outrage against Xbox at times feels premeditated and even fake. No matter what the announcement, some fans always find something or the other to complain about. When the Sony State of Play dropped, fans were speaking about the lack of big releases on Xbox. Then Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released and fans were outraged that why wasn’t the game available on other platforms.

Now after Xbox decided to shift towards embracing its identity as a multi-platform video game publisher, fans are against that too. It only goes on to show, that you cannot please everybody. But the Xbox faithful have been overjoyed by the recent Xbox Direct announcements.

What are your thoughts regarding the Xbox Direct announcements? Do you think Phil Spencer and Co. are right about the direction they chose? What do you think will be the repercussions on the console industry as a whole?

I travel. I game. I write. In no strict order.

The single biggest lie told all around is, "It isn't that simple." It is simple, everything is. And that is what I emulate in my writing. No unnecessary jargons and no flamboyant flourish. Just what's needed to get your imagination going. After all mind has no limit, unlike the written word.
