The Wood Release is unquestionably one of the rarest Kekkei Genkai in history—if not the rarest—in the Narutoverse. Only two people in history are known to be capable of using this technique: Hashirama Senju, the renowned shinobi, and Yamato, the acting captain of Konoha’s Team 7. Yamato is a Konohagakure ninja with the same rank as Kakashi Hatake and a member of the ANBU.

He makes an appearance in the anime’s second section. The character is intriguing even though not much is known about him aside from his relationship with Hashirama Senju, the first Hokage. Fans began to wonder if Yamato was descended from Hashirama Senju and related to him as a result.

There was not much to connect him with Hashirama Senju as almost nothing is known about Yamato and even his name was given to him by Tsunade. But still, being the only one to be able to use the wood release jutsu besides the first Hokage made him unique and kept the fans wondering.

Yamato also known by his code name Tenzo is Konohagakure’s anbu who turned jonin. Even as a small boy, his abilities were demonstrated to be sufficient for him to join the Anbu. Danzo took Yamato on as his apprentice and trained him because of his skills and potential.

Yamato has the distinctive Wood Release kekkei genkai, which is shared by Hashirama. As a result, he can create grass and trees by combining the chakras of the earth and the water with one hand.

He was switched from Anbu to the regular forces, joining Team 7 as a stand-in for their Kakashi Hatake, because of his Wood Release, which would enable him to hold the Nine-Tails sealed inside Naruto Uzumaki in check. His wood release made him a subject of interest for many fans and almost everyone who watched Naruto wondered whether he was a descendant of Hashirama Senju or not.

Was Yamato Related to Hashirama Senju?

When Sakura and Naruto were assisting the Sand Village in rescuing Gaara from Akatsuki, Yamato made his debut in the first Naruto Shippuden adventure. To this day, many people have either forgotten or are unaware of Yamato’s ability to perform the Wood Release style, which was unique to Hashirama.

Yamato was the only child to survive out of a crop of children who had been subjected to experiments using the DNA of Hashirama, the first Hokage. Because of this, he can employ his Wood Release technique, albeit a considerably weakened one.

Beyond Orochimaru using Hashirama’s DNA to conduct experiments on him, Yamato has no further relationship to the first Hokage. But still, it was quite a big thing for a ninja to be able to use the wood release jutsu which made Yamato interesting and kept him in the story further on.
