Hollywood star Henry Cavill has been ruling the hearts of millions since he appeared as Superman in the 2013 film Man of Steel. While it is considered one of his best works, the actor has also added to his fan following with several other projects. And one of these also includes the Netflix fantasy drama The Witcher. Cavill was adamant about having the lead role in the show, as he is a big fan of The Witcher game and book series.

Doug Cockle Inspired Henry Cavill to Voice Geralt Perfectly

Henry Cavill used a deep manly voice for his character in the Netflix series The Witcher. Actor-director Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt of Rivia in games, also praised Cavill for his work as the character. The Tudors star later revealed that his voice in the show was inspired by Cockle’s work.

The London Voodoo actor revealed that he was also curious about what Cavill was planning to do about Geralt’s voice. “What else are you going to do with him? You can’t give him a squeaky New York accent or something like that,” he said. Cockle also stated that the monster hunter needs a gruffness in his voice as well.

And he was surprised after the release of the show’s trailer, as he received multiple quarries if the Justice League star’s voice in the show is influenced by his performance in the game. He said that it could be possible as Cavill is a huge fan of the game and would have played it multiple times to get familiar with his voice in The Witcher game.

Henry Cavill Was Advised to Use His Normal Voice For Geralt

The Mission Impossible star shared that while filming the fight scene between Geralt and King Foltest, he started using a different tone for the character. He said, “I didn’t do that intentionally. That happened by accident.” Although he did not do it consciously, Cavill shared that he found it better than using his normal voice. So he decided to continue with the voice.

He also admitted that his voice seems a lot similar to Doug Cockle’s work in the games, but he did not want to straightforwardly copy someone’s amazing work. The Enola Holmes actor shared that he wanted to “bring it down to a British [accent]” and make it more “stone and grit.” He suggested the same to the showrunners, and they agreed to do it as he wanted.

The Witcher is available to stream on Netflix.
