It wasn’t just critics and fans who took a penchant for Cavill’s portrayal of the magical monster hunter though. Even the voice artist from the original video games couldn’t help but swoon over the British actor’s inescapable charm that materialized on-screen so effortlessly. No wonder the whole wide world revolted when Cavill left the show.

The Witcher‘s Voice Actor Sang High Praise of Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill‘s depiction of the titular supernatural protagonist in The Witcher has amassed endless recognition and acclaim, the most obvious reason being his dedication to the source material. A certified (and beloved) nerd, the Man of Steel star is a stickler for accurate comic book and novel adaptations. Not to mention, he evidently nailed it as Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy/adventure series, and even Doug Cockle believes so.

Cockle, 52, is the actor who voiced Geralt in CD Projekt Red’s English language versions of The Witcher video game series, and he just couldn’t get enough of Cavill’s performance in the show. The deep and gruff voice that the latter adopted for the character, especially impressed Cockle who concurred that Geralt’s personality demanded a rough, gravelly tone and not a “squeaky New York accent.”

“What else are you going to do with him? You can’t give him a squeaky New York accent or something like that. He’s gotta have that gruff voice.”

The fact that the former DC star maintained that husky accent on set even after they wrapped up filming for the day is further testament to Cavill’s commendable devotion to the character.

His Voice Isn’t the Only Thing He Altered for the Role

Besides his iconic Witcher voice, Cavill also transformed himself physically to fit in the shoes of the monster hunter better. While the Enola Holmes star is renowned for morphing into a muscled hunk for his outings as Superman, he worked on molding his physique for The Witcher like never before.

For his toned and herculean build in the show, Cavill engaged in intense weight training and strenuous workout routines coupled with sword fighting. “It was just non-stop practice, practice, practice,” The Tudors star revealed to Vanity Fair.

After three sensational seasons, however, Cavill’s run as the eponymous Witcher has come to an end as the actor passed down the mantle to The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth instead, who will play the character from season 4 onwards.

The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix.
