Before widely being known for playing the sparkling vampire in The Twilight Saga and eventually becoming Batman, Robert Pattinson was famous for his role as Cedric Diggory in The Harry Potter. However, in order to secure his role in the movie, the actor would use one lie, which would later come back to haunt him during his time filming one of the most challenging aspects of the movie.
One of the most challenging aspects of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the filming of the underwater sequence for the second task in the Triwizard Tournament in the movie. And this challenge would eventually become a nightmare for Pattinson.
Robert Pattinson’s lie about swimming would haunt him during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Following the shooting of the underwater sequence, the scene would witness the actors swimming underwater for real due to the director’s desire to keep it close to realism. However, the sequence would demand adequate swimming skills from the actors, which a young Robert Pattinson lacked at the time but his press release stated otherwise. The actor would open up about the incident and how it became a major problem for him and explained the situation by stating,
“I had to kind of get better at swimming very quickly. And yeah, just sort of holding your breath for 30 seconds or whatever seems like it’s relatively easy, like if you’re just kind of swimming around on holiday or whatever, but having to do it on cue and just when they say ‘action’ and you have to just swim from there to there, but you can’t see anything. That’s the annoying thing.”
But unlike The Batman star, who went on to endure some serious problems during the shooting of the intense sequence, Daniel Radcliffe on the other hand had a blast doing the difficult challenge.

Although Robert Pattinson wasn’t too keen about his time shooting underwater, the lead star of the movie expressed that he had extreme fun filming the sequence. Daniel Radcliffe, who went on to achieve a diving certificate for spending a substantial period in the water tank, stated that he had an enjoyable time filming the underwater sequences for the movie. The actor expressed his excitement for his stunts by stating,
“There is so much on Potter that was so intense and so crazy. You don’t even think about it at the time, ’cause you’re just like, ‘Yeah, they’re building a tank where D stage used to be. They’re just building a tank and they’re gonna be filming underwater for six weeks.'”
But even though Radcliffe took the spotlight in the movie, Robert Pattinson didn’t fail to leave his mark on the iconic franchise and would eventually become one of the most successful actors in recent times.
