“House of the Dragon” takes fans back to Westeros, a land of sprawling kingdoms, noble houses vying for power, and of course, dragons. It takes place about two centuries before the events of the fan-favorite Game of Thrones.
The prequel delves into the history of House Targaryen, the dragonlords who once ruled with absolute power. As special effects budgets and technology soar, fans are hungry for visuals that push the boundaries of what’s possible on television. The creators of “House of the Dragon” are promising to deliver just that.
House of The Dragon Creators Ensure That There Is Some Pretty Epic Stuff To Come
George R.R. Martin‘s House of the Dragon is set to return for its second season, and with it comes the promise of a spectacle that will redefine epic television. The creators have asked fans to get ready to witness the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war that would shake the entire map of Westeros.
Speaking to EW, the creator Ryan Condal hinted at battles unlike anything seen before in the world of Westeros. To imagine, there could be some clashes that could dwarf even the most impressive skirmishes from Game of Thrones, like the Battle of Blackwater or even the Battle of Bastards.
“This season, we shot two of the largest sequences that certainly I’ve ever done as a maker of television, certainly that House of the Dragon has ever done,” Ryan Condal speaking to EW. “I don’t know that they’re bigger necessarily than anything Game of Thrones has done, because they got pretty big in the end. But certainly we’re going to see new things that you have not seen before within this world. There’s some pretty epic stuff to come. It’s just a couple months away, guys.”
The second season of House of the Dragon reflects the rising stakes within the Targaryen family. The tensions between the Blacks, led by Rhaenyra Targaryen, and the Greens, championed by Aegon II, will finally boil over into open warfare. The fight for the Iron Throne will affect all of Westeros.
While Civil Wars are mostly about politics, the scope for visuals is very high when you have literal dragons at your disposal. Further, there are some really brutal fights in the Dance of Dragon, a few of which can make their way to the second season.
The two trailers for House of the Dragon were released recently and both show Ser Criston Cole waging a war. Battle at the Rook’s Rest can be a guess for this battle given Cole’s surroundings. The specific battle was a turning point in the Targaryen civil war. With a combined force of knights, men-at-arms, and sellswords, Criston Cole marched on the castle of Rook’s Rest.
Cole, the new Hand of Aegon II Targaryen, had devised a trap to lure Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. The battle reached its peak when the dragons took to the sky and an aerial duel ensued between three dragons. Overall, The Battle of Rook’s Rest marked the bloody beginning of a war that would inflict terrible wounds upon Westeros.
When Will House of The Dragon Season 2 Release?
The first episode of the second season of House of the Dragon will be released on June 16, 2024, on HBO Max. Two trailers for the series were released recently, and one trailer focused on Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s The Black Council.
The other trailer showed from the perspective of The Green Council, who are in support of King Aegon II Targaryen taking over the Iron Throne. The creators want fans to pick a side so that the civil war of fans could mirror the one in Westeros, but without the battle and dragons!
