Tom Cruise and Robert Pattinson are two of the most iconic actors in Hollywood, with one climbing the ladder like there’s no tomorrow and the other ruling over it. While the two of them have never shared the big screen together, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they haven’t met either. Out of the many movies that both of them have individually done, it was a small skit that brought them together.
In a rather humorous sketch, Cruise managed to ground Pattinson in a way that forever became an embedded memory in the fans’ eyes. Both their skills are extraordinary on their own, so much so that some of the biggest blockbusters have their names on it.
In a sketch that will be remembered for decades to come, Pattinson’s meeting with Cruise’s Tropic Thunder character did not go as planned.
Robert Pattinson’s Hair Is His Glory
In a sketch for the MTV Movie Awards in 2010, Robert Pattinson and Tom Cruise got together. The former played himself while the latter adorned his character from Robert Downey Jr.’s Tropic Thunder, Les Grossman. In their interaction, Cruise’s character congratulated the actor for doing the show, and out of excitement, Pattinson revealed his plans on how he wanted to present himself.
He stated that it would have been a good opportunity to wash his hair and wear a suit as well as shave himself. It is also to be noted that during that time, Twilight was at its all-time peak.
The fame was unimaginably massive and Pattinson was recognized more as Edward Cullen than he was as himself. Needless to say, his hair was a big aspect of who he was at that time.
Tom Cruise Humbled Robert Pattinson
Upon hearing Robert Pattinson’s wishes, Tom Cruise, or rather Les Grossman first acknowledged the idea, even so stating that he loved it. However, that happiness was short-lived. Grossman immediately started trolling Pattinson, stating that were he to wash his hair, he would wash away his career alongside it.
“When he’s done, Imma give you the number of a good plumber because you just flushed your f*cking career down the toilet. Your filthy hair made you a star. Your filthy hair made me hundreds of millions of dollars and sent my fat*ss kid to space camp four times.”
He started talking about how it is The Batman star’s hair that attracts such a big crowd and to wash the messy hair would immediately destroy what he had worked so hard to earn. Grossman even exclaimed as to Pattinson’s hair being a gold mine for him.
In the end, the actor decided to change his shampoo out of fear. No good product could ever replace the dirt that brought him such great fame.
