A recently leaked old email from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney is suddenly the talk of the town, at least on X. Epic Games has long been on the losing side of a lopsided race as they promoted The Epic Games Store to rival Valve’s Steam. The leaked email showed Tim Sweeney losing his composure while talking about the policies of Apple and Steam.

The email was originally sent on 3rd December 2018 to Gabe Newell, President of the Valve corporation. The document was leaked to netizens on 12th March 2024 and ever since fans have been having quite a laugh at the expense of the Epic Games CEO. The creator of Unreal Engine had some choice words in store for the people of Valve in the email that he sent.

Epic Games CEO Swears at Valve in Official Mail

Usually, official emails between competitors do not feature a whole lot of animosity. No matter how bad the situation is executives of rival companies use niceties while conversing with their counterparts. But Tim Sweeney had gone above and beyond all limits in his email and cussed at Valve, in an official email.

The post stated that Scott Lynch, the COO of Valve, had just replied to the email saying, “You mad bro?“. But as it can be clearly seen in the leaked screenshot, the reply was sent internally to Eric Johnson, an executive of Valve.

Although it is not as brash as calling your counterparts “a**holes“, Scott’s statement has provided a healthy dose of laughter to the gaming community who has no love lost for the Epic Games Store that has already seen its security breached and user info leaked in the past.

Users have taken to react and comment to the post on X with the majority of the sentiment being against Sweeney and his statements. However, there were a few users who tried seeing things from his point of view. One of them commented, “I just don’t get this blind faith for steam. They’re not good guys geeze.“.

However, the major fan sentiment seems to be against Tim Sweeney and Epic Games with players referring to the Epic Games Store as a massive failure.

Gabe Newell’s Steam the Uncontested Winner

The leaked email in question is over 6 years old. Over the course of this time, if there is anything that users have learned, it is that Steam enjoys an absolute monopoly over the market. Gabe Newell’s company not only blew the competition off the waters, but Tim Sweeney’s Epic Games could barely make a scratch on Steam’s control.

While the derisive reply from Scott Lynch did not make it to Tim Sweeney’s inbox, fans are having a good laugh at the reaction. Not only do they blame Epic Games for double standards, but they firmly believe that apart from Fortnite, The Epic Games Store has nothing to offer.

I travel. I game. I write. In no strict order.

The single biggest lie told all around is, "It isn't that simple." It is simple, everything is. And that is what I emulate in my writing. No unnecessary jargons and no flamboyant flourish. Just what's needed to get your imagination going. After all mind has no limit, unlike the written word.
