He said,

In your preparation for examinations, if you don’t do your revisions properly, do you know what will happen? You shall not PASS!

The actor said one of the most popular dialogues of his character, and his powerful voice incited claps of praise from the young Lord of the Rings fans. However, his response to reprising his role has left the fandom in tears.

Sir Ian McKellen Is Uncertain About His Return as Gandalf

Right from the first film, the X-Men actor’s portrayal of the wizard has been flawless and has captured the hearts of the fans. Though other additions to the franchise have received mixed reviews from both fans and critics, McKellen’s portrayal of the character has been divine.

Hence, fans would love to see more of the actor reprising the role. However, while talking to The Sunday Times, the actor opened up about the possibility of portraying his iconic role in the new Lord of the Rings film.

His response was, “If I’m alive.” The veteran actor turned 85 years old this past May, and he is quite thoughtful about taking on his roles, as any of them could be his last. He added,

If you want to know that you are mortal, you just have to look at your address book. And so when a script comes through, or the hint of an offer, you think, ‘This might be my last job. No. I’m not doing that.’ So if Falstaff is my last job, I’d better get it right, hadn’t I?

The response was enough to make a grown man cry, but he can’t weigh his options to return to his most iconic role because “there is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan” for him to make the decision. While fans would want him to reprise the role, the harsh reality of his age has stirred doubts about his return.
