Winona Ryder is an actress loved by everyone. Her acting is remarkable and her personality is just as charming. However, she did not have it easy when she first started out in the Hollywood industry. Many actors and actresses suffer from being typecast. That was a case for her as well, although she knew she had to get out of it because of just how absurd the typecasting had been.

“I was going to public school when it came out, and you’d think that maybe the kids would be like, ‘Wow, you are in the number-one movie in America!’ But they were like, ‘You witch, you’re that freak!’ They threw Cheetos and cafeteria food at me.”

Ryder thought that people in her school would acknowledge her after she did Beetlejuice. She thought that things could change for her as they would be in awe of knowing someone as incredible as her. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In fact, children in her school would through food at her and call her a freak despite the movie’s incredible success.

“I have to credit Tim Burton with that enormously. Not just in getting to work with him as a director, but in getting to know him as a person, as a friend—I kind of went from feeling a little bit weird to feeling very special,” she stated. “That, combined with my parents being the way they were, made me feel like what I was doing was actually kind of cool and exciting.”

She saw a friend in Burton and commended how he helped her in understanding just how amazing of a person she really is.
