Appearing in Jonathan Nolan’s upcoming Fallout series for Amazon, Walton Goggins has taken on the role of Ghoul, a 200-year-old apocalypse survivor. Starring alongside Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, and Michael Emerson, Goggins addressed his character and work experience during an interview with The Guardian.
As the most recent trailer for Fallout dropped online and sent fans into a frenzy over the upcoming show, Walton Goggins reflected upon his filming hardships. Addressing how he wore prosthetics for his character in 106°F, the actor noted wondering about his age, after Jonathan Nolan mistook his sweat build-up for teardrops.
Walton Goggins Set to Appear as Ghoul in Fallout
Following in the similar footsteps of The Last of Us – Pedro Pascal’s post-apocalyptic game-turned-series, Jonathan Nolan came up with his upcoming Amazon show Fallout. Set to release its episodes on 11 April 2024, the highly anticipated series recently took the internet by storm after dropping its first trailer.
Starring renowned actor Walton Goggins in the titular role of Ghoul, a 200-year-old apocalypse survivor, perpetually on the brink of becoming a full-blown zombie, Nolan’s show depicts a perfect balance between the character’s grim survival and his flashbacks from his pre-Ghoul days. For this particular role, Goggins took on the challenge of working with a full-face prosthetic, in an attempt to offer an unrecognizable look.
However, while Walton Goggins offered the show with his dedication and impressed fans with his first look, the actor admitted having a hard time filming. Speaking with The Guardian, although Goggins admitted loving every bit of the production, he also stated that wearing the prosthetics wasn’t a lot of fun, especially at 106°F [41°C] temperature.
Jonathan Nolan’s Show Forced Goggins to Think About His Age
Speaking with the outlet about his filming experience, Walton Goggins noted how Jonathan Nolan’s Fallout made him think of his growing age. Struggling to work and sweating profusely, the actor admitted considering himself “too old” for stuff like this. While discussing his experience, Goggins noted how Nolan even mistook his sweating for crying.
“I didn’t know how I would hold up, to be quite honest with you. The very first day we were working, it was 106F [41C]. And all of a sudden, the sweat started building up. I couldn’t stop it. Jonathan Nolan asked me: ‘Are you crying?’ I said: ‘No, I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”
Recalling his struggles from the very first day of production, Walton Goggins noted how sweat started building up near his eyes. Failing to work with prosthetics in the scorching heat, the actor mentioned how water came pouring out from his sweat build-up after Jonathan Nolan put pressure. Following that incident, Goggins admitted wondering if it was right to put his body through such hardships at his age.
“He touched my eye and water came pouring out of the piece because there was a buildup of sweat inside. I’m not one to complain, but I sat down on a log and literally said to myself: ‘Man, you’re getting too old for this sh*t. I don’t know how I’m going to do nine months of this.’ I was freaking out.”
But despite his struggles with the prosthetics and working in unbearable heat, Walton Goggins appeared badass in the trailer. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for the show to hit the streaming platform on 11 April.
