Luckily, he seems to have his fans covered for the near future as news of his involvement in yet another potential blockbuster is out. Zac Efron in Talks of Starring in a Movie Akin to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler
Zac Efron’s fans might have another reason to rejoice soon. Although the actor has appeared in movies of numerous genres in his career spanning more than two decades, his touching down on the thriller genre is certainly going to serve as a ball for the fans.
Deadline has recently revealed that Zac Efron will star in a celebrity thriller named Famous. The movie is set to be directed by Jody Hill and produced by Sam Esmail. It is based on New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch’s novel. The screenplay will be adapted by Chad Hodge, who has previously adapted Crouch’s Wayward Pines trilogy into a series.
Famous will see Efron in the role of Lance Dunkquist whose biggest asset is his face which bears a striking resemblance to that of a Hollywood star named James Jensen. Lance decides to go to Los Angeles to follow his dreams of becoming famous and is willing to do anything to achieve it. The Neighbors star is going to portray both Lance and James.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler follows Louis ‘Lou’ Bloom, a stringer photographer in Los Angeles. Lou records violent events at night and sells the footage to a local TV news station for hefty sums of money.
Zac Efron Has Quite a Few Projects Lined-Up
Sam Esmail will be producing Zac Efron-led Famous alongside Chad Hamilton under the banner of Esmail Corp. Nick Krishnamurthy under this banner will work on the movie as an executive producer. Not so long ago, Esmail produced and directed the streaming hit Leave the World Behind for Netflix. The movie was a thriller and starred Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, and Myha’la.
That being said, this year is going to be rather huge for Zac Efron. His Amazon Studios comedy Ricky Stanicky is set for release next month. Furthermore, his Netflix comedy A Family Affair, which also stars Nicole Kidman and Joey King, is scheduled to be released later this year.
Last year was also great for Efron as he appeared in the movie The Iron Claw, which is based on the legendary wrestling Von Erich family. His performance as Kevin Von Erich was praised by critics and audiences alike. Despite his phenomenal performance, he was not nominated for an Academy Award which was rather shocking.
