Zac Efron in a recent interview with W Magazine talked about his journey to become associated with the wrestling world with his new project, The Iron Claw. When he was asked about his thoughts on whether having a nearly naked appearance was something he found difficult or not, he replied,

“It doesn’t leave much to the imagination! I got pretty beat up, but you feel like a warrior. It’s kind of fun.”

Efron’s project is based on the life story of professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich and his wrestling family. Given that the biopic’s star was required to give off a similar essence to that of the personality, he had to go through intense training to pull off an incredible physique. The actor eventually engaged in heavy bodybuilding to get a ripped physique in a few months.

In a Variety interview, Efron dived into preparing for his role in the 2023 movie. Portraying the role was indeed difficult however he decided to pull it off. He stated,

“Again, being a perfectionist at heart, I knew that I was up for a challenge.”

While he did not go deep into his eight-month process, he worked out for hours, starting off to gain 15 pounds of muscle with volume training.

“Then I was able to incorporate old-school body-building and Olympic lifting and really achieved that specific look of pro wrestlers, which was really hard.”

Given that he has already experienced bulking up once due to his work in Baywatch, he knew what he had to avoid.

“I learned a lot over the course of ‘Baywatch’ — I learned the hard way about not sacrificing my real health for a look on camera,” he stated. “I had the right questions to ask for this one.”

His dedication to his craft eventually gave him incredible results. Not only did he manage to showcase his ripped physique on-screen but it also helped him in better managing one-take wrestling matches. Starring Efron alongside Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, Holt McCallany, and Lily James, the movie has grossed $21 million worldwide, gaining critical acclaim.
