There’s no mystery why Zack Snyder is considered one of the most polarizing directors in Hollywood. His movies often are the subjects of online debates because of his interpretation of characters and execution of scenes. Indeed, he’s quite a divisive filmmaker.

One of his most popular works, 300, is reportedly getting a small-screen treatment, and this could be an alarming news unbeknownst to him. Snyder is in talks to helm a prequel series to his 2006 historical epic which doesn’t already look good given the streak of flopped projects he’s been involved with.

Zack Snyder Is Rumored To Helm 300 TV Series Prequel

In a report from Variety, the outlet claims “a ‘300’ TV series adaptation is in early development at Warner Bros. Television” which is revealed to be a prequel to the 2006 movie. Plot and cast details remain under wraps.

Zack Snyder is reportedly attached to the project with his wife, Deborah Snyder, also serving as executive producer. The filmmaker has already hinted in a previous interview about his enthusiasm to expand the 300 franchise. In a conversation with Collider, he stated:

We’ve been talking a lot about sort of different incarnations of 300. We’ve been talking about, is there a way, possibly, we move out of Ancient Greece and use it as a framing device for other conflicts that happened throughout history.

Snyder mentioned “the Revolutionary War version” and “about the Alamo” and also “there’s a battle in China.” The director noted “a ‘Lost Legion’ kind of concept” which is one of the things that are being considered.

Indeed, the Justice League helmer has a lot of ideas in mind about the 300 franchise, but that project almost felt like eons ago, and the political landscape today has vastly changed. Issues about race, religion, and gender will be tackled and scrutinized by the public and will no longer be swept under the rug like before.

Snyder’s career has been a hit-and-miss over the past few years. Starting from the controversial DCEU fiasco to the failure of his original Netflix show Rebel Moon, it’s now too hazy to see the path his creative vision is taking him.

Zack Snyder Should Leave 300 In The Past

The 300 prequel franchise might become the riskiest decision Zack Snyder could take if he pushes through with the project. In 2007, it suffered the wrath of the Iranians after it was banned and considered an “anti-Iranian Hollywood film.” In a headline by Ayandeh-No news outlet, it stated:

Hollywood declares war on Iranians. It seeks to tell people that Iran, which is in the Axis of Evil now, has for long been the source of evil, and modern Iranians’ ancestors are the ugly murderous dumb savages you see in 300.

Snyder would not want to go through this again and might want to bury this franchise in the past. The DCEU and Rebel Moon are enough reminders that one wrong move again could mean his career will be over.
