Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released in 2021, giving fans another look into the director’s unique vision for the DCEU. While fans thought there was a solid chance for an entire Justice League saga directed by Zack Snyder, nothing of the sort happened. Zack Snyder left, James Gunn and Peter Safran became in-charge, and the superhero universe was rebooted.
Despite all the facts, fans are still holding onto a thin thread of hope that Zack Snyder will return and finish what he started. However, as things stand right now, coming to the DCU is not the filmmaker’s priority. Although, there is one way he might reconsider his decision and this might even allow Ben Affleck and others to return to their respective superhero roles.
Zack Snyder Talks about the Future of Justice League
Zack Snyder might never return to direct another DCU project. However, even he knows never to say never. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via Screen Rant), Snyder revealed that he might be willing to continue the Justice League saga but through a different medium – animation.
When asked if he would want to make Justice League 2 and 3 in animation, the filmmaker didn’t have much to say except,
“Yeah, absolutely. That’d be fun. That’d be cool.”
While Snyder believes it would be fun to finish what he started by turning to animation, his words should most certainly not be taken as a confirmation of anything. However, if he actually does end up considering the idea, it would be a great way to have Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and others return to their roles, albeit just to give their voice.
Would Ben Affleck Return to Play Batman?
The actors behind Batman’s mask keep changing but Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader will always hold a special place in the fans’ hearts. Therefore, when he told The Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t want to play the character anymore, fans were rightfully upset.
Firstly, Affleck stated that he loved what he did in The Flash and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, when it comes to Joss Whedon’s Justice League, the actor has a lot of bad memories.
“You could teach a seminar on all the reasons why this is how not to do it. Ranging from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, and just ending with the most monstrous taste in my mouth.”
He continued,
“[Justice League] made me go, ‘I’m out. I never want to do any of this again. I’m not suited.’ That was the worst experience I’ve ever seen in a business which is full of some shitty experiences. It broke my heart… There was an idea of someone [Joss Whedon] coming in, like, ‘I’ll rescue you and we’ll do 60 days of shooting and I’ll write a whole thing around what you have. I’ve got the secret.’ And it wasn’t the secret. That was hard. And I started to drink too much. I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, ‘This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable.’”
Clearly, returning to play Batman in live-action is the last thing Affleck wants to do. However, if Snyder is up to implementing his vision through animation, perhaps Affleck might reconsider his decision.
