The DCAU is on a roll, with three times the fun. The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy is a major production this year. With the first movie already released, we are now looking at the second installment of the trilogy, which is set to be released later this month. Based on the DC Comics of the same name by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the three-part animated story will bring to life one of the most popular comic stories from the IP.

At the time of the release of the first part of the trilogy, director Jeff Wamester, executive producer Butch Lukic, and scriptwriter and producer Jim Krieg sat down for an interview with ComingSoon. The trio divulged to the readers some inside stories about Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Is a Jigsaw Puzzle

Remember when The CW’s Arrowverse did the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline one year, and we got a bunch of heroes coming together from different timelines? The actors played both the heroes and the villains, and it was one of the best story arcs from all the CW shows coming together. Well, the DCAU did that and so much more. Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One is the eighth movie in the Tomorrowverse and gives a call back to a lot of characters and story arcs from the previous films.

The movie is constantly going back and forth in time as Barry travels between multiple timelines. The Flash, voiced by Matt Bomer, is at the center of the story, and all the other heroes are intrinsically intertwined with him as he travels through time. As the trio says, the constant change in timeline is also an important part of the story, which might confuse people, but also keep them hooked. They do not want the audience to know the story before their main character is aware of what happens next, and this is the best way to do it. Butch Lukic, who has previously directed a couple of episodes of Batman Beyond, said to ComingSoon.com :

“Some people have mentioned it’s Christopher Nolan’s storytelling. Some of his stuff, of course, where it’s a puzzle that you have to basically jigsaw together, which is, again, a good storytelling trope which is rarely used.”

If they tried to incorporate some Nolanesque storytelling, it certainly paid off, as the movie sits with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kevin Conroy Will Posthumously Voice Batman in Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three

The first part of the trilogy is already out with largely positive reviews, and the second is set to be released soon, later this month. The third movie, though, does not have a set release date as of yet. But there is one update all fans of the DCAU would be ecstatic to hear – Kevin Conroy, who was the voice of Batman / Bruce Wayne since Batman: The Animated Series, will posthumously return for the third installment of the trilogy.

The actor had apparently finished doing the voice-over for the third movie, before his unfortunate passing in November 2022. Actor Mark Hamill, who has been the voice of Joker alongside Conroy since 1992, will also be back for the third movie. He had previously announced that he was taking his leave from the character of the Clown Prince of Crime, especially after the passing of his mate and colleague. But he is rumored to be back for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three as well.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One is available for rent on Apple TV.
