The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has taken the internet by storm, revealing tons of juicy details about the only film Marvel is looking to release in 2024. This will be the first feature-length film of the MCU that would feature mutants in its entirety and as the main focus. Given that is clear that we will be dealing with the TVA in the film, Deadpool & Wolverine might have already revealed how it will be taking on Cassandra Nova and her team of Marauders at the end of time.
It is already known that Deadpool will be teaming up with a slew of his variants by the end of time, and, there may be other variants of characters that we can expect to see in the film. Specifically, it would make sense for there to be multiple Wolverine variants in the film too, and we may have seen more than one in the trailer that was released.
The Wolverine we saw in the trailer is a variant
We know that the Wolverine that we see in the trailer hails from a different universe than the Fox-verse depicted. The Wolverine that we saw in Logan is still dead, and this Wolverine is one from another universe. However, given that the first Wolverine we see in the trailer is not in his costume, it is possible that Wolverine was a variant. Given that Deadpool would directly take the mutant to the TVA, there does not seem to be much time for the character to change into his suit, which could mean that we saw two Wolverine variants in the trailer.
Other variants that could show up are, X-23, who is the current Wolverine in the new Fox timeline, and a younger Logan from the X-Men: Apocalypse timeline. There are other versions of Wolverine that could also show up, ones that have had different experiences from the Wolverines we know.
Deadpool & Wolverine could introduce Hugh Jackman’s successor
One of the many rumored cameos that are set to appear in the film, is Dafne Keen‘s X-23, who appeared in Logan. It is also possible that audiences will be introduced to the Wolverine who will be taking over from Jackman’s version of the character, to become the definitive MCU Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman has made it clear that it would be difficult for him to play Wolverine going forward, given the toll that it takes on his body. His run as Logan/Wolverine may come to an end with this film, where he can finally hand off the character to the actor who will carry the role for the next few years, given that Wolverine is a keystone character, and would stay as a part of the MCU even beyond the X-Men corner of the MCU.
