The show which also starred Reeve Carney, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, and Josh Hartnett among others, saw the origin stories of many famous Victorian gothic characters like Dorian Gray, Abraham Van Helsing, John Seward, Renfield, etc. These characters pop up as the main character Malcolm Murray, played by Dalton, goes on a personal quest to find her daughter Justine.

Piper played Brona Croft/ The Bride of Frankenstein in the show, and over three seasons, her compelling performance captivated fans of the show. The series itself has received critical acclaim in all its three seasons (scoring 81%, 100%, and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes) Thus, stepping into another similar gothic show, albeit with a dark comedy aspect feels like a natural transition for the actress. It remains to be seen how Piper fits into the show in the second season.

With their previous experience as co-creators on Smallville and getting to tell interesting stories, Gough stated that going deep into the characters and the lore has been their goal in everything they do. He also stated that they want to continue telling interesting narratives featuring Wednesday as long as people want it. Gough said,

“Well, the beauty of television is you could go on for many seasons, which we’ve done before. What’s also fun is the more you go, the world and the stories kind of reveal themselves. So, it’s actually something that we enjoy doing, and you also have that special relationship with an audience when they’re invested in these characters over a period of years. So, we’d like it to go on for as long as it can.”

Ortega returns as the titular character and audiences can expect more mysteries and exciting adventures with the character following the shocking ending of season 1. One can expect season 2 to drop next year. Fans can can watch season 1 of Wednesday on Netflix.
