The Transformers and G.I. Joe fandom has been getting a lot of mind-blowing reports ever since Paramount announced that these two universes will soon be colliding and having their own crossover movie.
That said, the latest reports haven’t quite ceased to leave fans baffled either, considering how they have finally revealed who would be taming this crossover movie’s storyline.

According to exclusive reports, this reportedly-Chris-Hemsworth-starrer has joined hands with none other than a Jurassic World writer who co-wrote all three films from the movie series: Derek Connolly.
However, this latest piece of news isn’t the best one for fans of both of these respective worlds because the inclusion of this writer means the film could go south for a very valid reason.
Derek Connolly has been Tapped for Transformers x G.I. Joe Film
Screenwriter cum producer Connolly, who has acted as a scribe (and a co-scribe) for projects like Pokémon Detective Pikachu and all the Jurassic World movies, has been tapped as a writer for the upcoming untitled Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover movie, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

This comes after reports about Chris Hemsworth joining hands with Paramount for the same project as well. For a majority of fans, this must sound like good news when considering all the fan-favorite works the writer has been credited with, which includes films like 2015’s blockbuster Jurassic World.
However, while critically examining this situation, his inclusion is pretty much a troublesome report. This is because of one sole reason related to the Jurassic Park franchise’s reboot film series, something that even fans wouldn’t be able to counterargue with.
Although Derek Connolly has indeed given a few remarkable projects as mentioned above, his latest projects have been nothing short of disasters; especially when it comes to the latest reboot movies in the film series on dinosaurs starring Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead.

For a bit of insight: The second movie in this respective film series, i.e. Fallen Kingdom (2018) may have been somewhat approved by fans, but the critics and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes honestly couldn’t give it more than 47% and 48% respectively each.
Moreover, if that wasn’t enough, the third and latest movie in the film series, i.e. Dominion (2022) has proven to be the worst critically rated movie in the entire film series, standing at a mere 29% as the average review from the critics consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.
That being said, this respective film series starring Chris Pratt as one of the lead protagonists is a major reason why Connolly’s involvement with this upcoming crossover movie could end up going seriously wrong for the saga, if the storyline isn’t good enough to appease both fans and critics.
Fans Have Been Pointing Out the Same Thing
In fact, some of the fans are even claiming that, at this point, they have some incredibly low expectations from this collision movie because of how the recent turn of events for it have been.
All in all, here’s how they’re reacting to these reports on X:
It must be nice being a lackluster writer who continues to get work in big franchises.
PS: Simon Kinberg knows this very well.

This feels like such a bad idea.

While all of these reactions already sum up this debate, there is still hope that Connelly ends up surpassing everyone’s expectations by performing better than ever before; maybe even better than what he did while co-writing the script for the original Jurassic World film from 2015.
