For years, PlayStation, being a dedicated gaming console, has offered a higher gaming experience to gamers. However, that may soon change with Sony gearing up to burn the bridges between its PlayStation console and PC gaming.
Sony’s efforts towards the PlayStation PC have been quite evident in the past few months. A few months ago the company revealed that it is now testing PSVR 2 support for PC. Meanwhile, Sony president Hiroki Totoki was reported discussing the opportunity to grow PlayStation games on PC. Just days after the discussion Sony laid off around 900 employees in its PlayStation division.
Additionally, Sony has also launched its own PC gaming monitors and started porting more PlayStation-exclusive games to the PC.
Ghost of Tsushima to have a PlayStation PC overlay
Sony recently announced that it is introducing a new PlayStation PC overlay along with shared Trophies in its upcoming game Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. The game will be released on May 16, 2024.
With this, the game marks the first PlayStation game for PC that uses Sony’s new PlayStation overlay. It will function similarly to the existing Steam overlay. It will include access to a friend list, Trophies, Settings, and the player’s PlayStation account.
PlayStation recently published a blog post recently, in which developer Nixxes’ onine community specialist, Julian Huijbregts, explains,
“This feature is available on Windows PCs and will be accessible from the in-game menu or, for keyboard players, by pressing the “SHIFT +F1” shortcut on your keyboard.”
Sony acquired Nixxes back in 2021. After the acquisition, Sony has been using the in-house port developer to bring PlayStation games like Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to PC. In fact, Sony also started using its PlayStation PC label just months after it acquired Nixxes.
Notably, the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will also be the first PlayStation PC game to support the Trophies system from Sony’s consoles on PC. In the blog, Huijbregts mentions that while playing the game, players can earn PlayStation Trophies similar to the PlayStation consoles.
Ghost of Tsushima PlayStation PC overlay features
Players on PC can get access to Ghost of Tsushima’s Trophies, friends list, or cross-play support. For this, they will first be required to sign in to Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut with their PlayStation Network credentials.
Notably, the PlayStation overlay on PC is completely optional. Additionally, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC will also come with support for Nvidia’s DLSS 3, AMD’s FSR 3, and Intel’s XeSS upscaling.
It will also include full support for the PlayStation DualSense controller along with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on a wired connection. For players who have an ultrawide monitor, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be playable on 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions. Interestingly, 48:9 and triple monitors are also supported.
