Tom Hiddleston seems to be on a roll when it comes to the small screen as the popular series The Night Manager recently got renewed for two more seasons. Based on the novel by John le Carré, the BBC series first aired in 2016 and co-starred Hugh Laurie. The show received acclaim from critics and audiences, with Hiddleston even winning a Golden Globe.
Hiddleston was last seen as Loki in the Disney Plus show Loki, which saw its second season. The second and third seasons of The Night Manager reportedly took a long time as they were working on the story with the late writer le Carré and his estate. The renewal of the show eight years after its first season gave many Sherlock fans hopes for a fifth season.
Tom Hiddleston Returns As Jonathan Pine In The Night Manager Seasons 2 And 3
Tom Hiddleston has many roles in his filmography that have garnered him a lot of acclaim and fame. Apart from playing the Norse God of Mischief Loki in the MCU, the actor’s other role which garnered him acclaim was Jonathan Pine in the BBC adaptation of John le Carré’s novel The Night Manager. He co-starred with Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman in the show.
Earlier this week, the makers of the show announced that The Night Manager was renewed for seasons 2 and 3. According to Variety, Hiddleston would be returning for the series as Jonathan Pine and the show would see the character eight years after the events of season one. While Hugh Laurie had a starring role in the first season, he would be joining as an executive producer for the second.
In a statement, Tom Hiddleston called the show one of his most creatively fulfilling projects. The actor also expressed his gratitude and excitement for working with the team and mentioned that he was looking forward to working with George Banks-Davies, who is set to direct all six episodes of season 2. Hiddleston said,
“The first series of ‘The Night Manager’ was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range, and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect. I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.”
The first season also starred Elizabeth Debecki, Tom Hollander, and Noah Jupe in supporting roles. The show won Hiddleston a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Television Film, and he even received a Primetime Emmy nomination. Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman also won Golden Globes for their performances.
Is The Night Manager’s Renewal A Boon For Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock?
The BBC series The Night Manager was renewed for a second season after over eight years. Tom Hiddleston recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about the show and why it took so long to come up with a new season of the celebrated series. Hiddleston mentioned that the makers were working on a storyline with author John le Carré to develop the story after the first season covered the events of the novel.
The announcement of the new season seems to have given hope to many Benedict Cumberbatch fans and fans of BBC’s popular series Sherlock. The show was a contemporary adaptation of the popular Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and also starred Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss, Andrew Scott, and Amanda Abbington.
Renewing something almost a decade after it filmed is the most British thing ever. Gives me hope for a new season of Sherlock!

Sherlock only saw four seasons with a total of fourteen episodes. While the fourth season was not a definitive end to the show, there have been no active developments regarding a fifth season. Co-creator Stephen Moffat mentioned that though he and Gatiss had plotted the next season, its development would entirely depend on the dates of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (via Digital Spy).
