God of War creator David Jaffe has always been skeptical about different aspects of the gaming world. Despite being part of a Sony IP, he never hesitated to criticize PlayStation, as he did after his admiring words towards the Xbox Games Showcase.

But this time he showed up in defense of the 2023 first-person shooter game developed by Arkane Austin, Redfall. The game was heavily criticized after its launch and failed miserably to make a stand in the gaming world. However, the Xbox-exclusive title has Jaffe’s supportive words now.

In a recent X post, Jaffe shared his support for the Arkane Austine first-person shooter. He defended the title by saying he is a big fan of the narrative aspect of the game. According to him, the developers have done a wonderful job at the IP level. However, considering it as a game, he found it to be a bit boring, and that too at a very young age.

Basically, Jaffe wants to state that the game itself isn’t that great, but the in-game atmosphere is pretty decent. He has also stated that he will be returning to the game and playing the final update as well. Even after playing the final update, he won’t be expecting too much from the game, as there will be no sudden and abrupt overnight growth from the game. The game has a 6/10 rating from the creator of Kratos.

Recently, Microsoft shut down four of its subsidiary gaming studios, one of which was Arcane Austin. This step was taken as a cost-cutting measure, and this measure pinned the final nail on the coffin of Redfall. However, there was an update lined up for this game, which was finally released and remained as the final one of the game.

The final update of the game (update 1.451) surfaced on May 30, 2024, just before the closure of the developing studio. This update, named Redfall ReVamp, seriously changed multiple elements of the game. One could almost say that it pulled the game out of the grave.

With this update, one of the most requested features is added to the game, which is offline mode. Along with it, the neighborhood system is also revamped and equipped with a new meter called Community Standing. The update also introduced elder nests in the game, which are similar to the already-existing heart nests but are more boss-centric arenas.

The update came as a pretty satisfying vindication of fan concerns. Upon seeing this reaction from the community, former Arkane Austin Head Harvey Smith tweeted, expressing his emotions.

This update from Arkane Austin meant a lot to the game’s smattering of fans, letting them know that the team was devoted to changing the fate of the game, and managed to do so to a certain extent. If the studio hadn’t been closed down, we may have seen a very different version of Redfall at some point down the road.
