“I was never high, I was never drunk, never out my mind/I need control, they handed me some smoke, but still I declined/I did it sober, sittin’ with myself, I went through all emotions/No dependents — except for one, let me bring you closer. Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature that I failed to mention/Insecurities that I project, sleepin’ with other women/Whitney’s hurt, the pure soul I know, I found her in the kitchen/Askin’ God, ‘Where did I lose myself? And can it be forgiven?’” Lamar revealed revealed in the lyric.

The song was an ode to confessing the insecurities and the revelation of the deepest fear. But faith has kept his family binding. Lamar also explained that he has been sober and candidly reflecting on moving away from any form of intoxicating substances including a puff of smoke or a sip of an alcoholic drink.

Alford knew that it was not easy to admit something of such proportion quite easily while Lamar’s family was at stake. But Alford kept it from tearing for the mistake of the rapper. Lamar further revealed how his partner reacted to his revelation.

“Broke me down, she looked me in my eyes, ‘Is there an addiction?’/I said ‘No,’ but this time I lied, I knew that I can’t fix it/Pure soul, even in her pain, know she cared for me/Gave me a number, said she recommended some therapy,” he rapped.

Alford was rather understanding, she showed him the ways to therapy to overcome his s*x addiction. Not just the song, the album cover was also dedicated to his family featuring Lamar alongside Alford and their two young children.
