Singer and songwriter Dua Lipa has decided to go beyond her musical career trying her luck in acting. Her first cinematic appearance in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 highest-grosser blockbuster Barbie was a promising start. After Barbie, Lipa starred in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.
It is certainly an interesting coincidence that both the films Lipa has appeared in have John Cena as her co-star. In Barbie, the duo appeared as the Mermaid/Merman Ken-Barbie couple. Argyle gave her prominent screen time starring alongside Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, and of course, Cena.
John Cena And Dua Lipa Share An Astounding Friendship
Wrestler-turned-actor John Cena and singer Dua Lipa have made a friendship that is worth celebrating. In a chat with Rolling Stone, Lipa revealed that Cena has been her emotional support actor since they met. “I can’t do a single thing without him,” Lipa said.
“I’ve loved working with him. I think we’re each other’s emotional support actor. I always get a text and a picture after they’d been.”
As Lipa revealed, the duo has been exchanging restaurant recommendations beyond their set friendship. The One Kiss singer once recommended a Persian spot to Cena and his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh loved the recommendation being regular visitors to that restaurant.
In another interview with Vanity Fair, extended her comment on Cena being her emotional support. “It seems like I can’t seem to do anything without him! He’s really my emotional support actor,” the Cold Heart singer said. “It was fab, and he’s amazing, and I absolutely love working with John. He’s such a great guy and so lovely,” she added.
Fans will definitely love seeing the bond between the duo as Cena is the pillar of support for Lipa in her new journey as an actor in a non-verbal agreement to complement their friendship.
John Cena Commented On His Bonding With Dua Lipa
Following Lipa’s comment on Cena being her emotional support, the former wrestler and the Peacemaker star reflected on their bonding on the set of Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle. At the world premiere of Argylle at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, Cena exclusively revealed details of their friendship in a conversation with PEOPLE.
“My takeaway from that comment, which I’m very grateful for, is we shot this before Barbie, so this was her first chance to be on-screen. She was vulnerable enough to admit she was nervous,” Cena said.
Cena went on to add an interesting moment between them which led to making their friendship even deeper.
“Meanwhile, I’m in front of Dua Lipa, Matthew Vaughn, and Henry Cavill, and I’m going, ‘You’re not alone! I’m nervous as well.’ So we began to share that. We’re both touring live performers, so we had some conversations about that and life on the road, and it just kind of spawned from there,” Cena told the outlet.
While Argylle could not meet the expectations as the movie was hyped only scoring a 32% Rotten Tomatoes score, it has certainly provided the Albanian singer/songwriter an opportunity to expand her career goal. Thanks to Cena, she appeared to be confident on and off the screen.
Barbie is available to stream on Max, and Argylle is showing in select theaters.
