According to a report by Kansai Television News, Kazama’s threats were severe and explicit. He expressed his intention to make the company regret creating what he called a “shitty game.”

His threats extended to spectators at events. This led to the cancellation of the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals, an event for the popular shooter game, and Nintendo Live 2024, forcing the cancellation of these major events due to safety concerns.

In a statement, the company highlighted the ongoing threats and the extension of these threats to spectators and staff at the events.

The company’s top priority was the safety of its customers, leading to the difficult decision to postpone and eventually cancel the events.

Kazama’s threats also had a large financial impact. This ordeal cost the company an estimated ¥700 million (approximately $4.36 million). The threats not only disrupted the company’s operations but also affected fans who were looking forward to attending these events.

Kazama’s sentencing is set for July 24, with the prosecution seeking a one-year prison sentence.
