Navid Khavari serves as the narrative director of Ubisoft’s original game and shared details about it in an interview with GameInformer and mentioned the major presence of different factions in the criminal underworld in the Star Wars universe and even developed a brand new syndicate for the game known as the Ashiga Clan.

The Ashiga Clan are a new syndicate we’ve crafted born from the collaboration between Massive and Lucasfilm Games. The Ashiga Clan are based on the ice-cold planet of Kijimi, which you might recognize from the Rise of Skywalker. As a syndicate they have a strict code of honor and are based around a hierarchical Melitto hive with their entire worldview being about the survival of the collective.

Khavari continued to explain:

Everything and everyone is judged on their usefulness to the whole. The Ashiga Clan have worked their way into every aspect of Kijimi’s underworld, from smuggling to extortion or sabotage and even weapons manufacturing. Wherever a shadow falls on Kijimi, you will find a member of the Ashiga Clan.

The game will not be focused on the central groups like the Rebellion or the Empire but will tackle the more obscure groups like the Syndicates that Kay Vess can affiliate herself with. The player’s decisions can have a significant impact on the overall story, similar to how Dune: Awakening is designed to let players choose their clans and the option to take the territories.

Freedom can be quite intriguing for fans and seeing how their choices evolve the story grants them a sense of ownership and agency for their respective journeys. While Funcom is working on a massive online multiplayer game, Ubisoft went with a more linear approach in terms of narrative.

Both games share great visual fidelity and fans are eager to see the changes and improvements from previous games of the developers and the concept of intergalactic warfare; however, in reality, the original Dune novel by Frank Herbert inspired Star Wars.

Funcom has the opportunity to expand the lore of the franchise that has been untapped by its live-action film counterparts and to showcase Arrakis. Developers now understand that the community is interested in taking part in the story rather than going in for the ride and are given more options.

Khavari saw the opportunity to shed some light on an obscure aspect of the Star Wars franchise and feels the pressure of getting it right while honoring the original films.
