While Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been making massive sales across different platforms, it’s impressive to see Stellar Blade sell more copies on a single platform. However, these numbers are in the context of only copies sold in Japan.
Stellar Blade Sells More Copies Than Dragon’s Dogma 2 in Japan
User Genki on Twitter recently shared some numbers that might surprise gamers across different platforms. According to their post, Stellar Blade has sold more than 91,000 copies in Japan. Compared to this, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold close to 84,000.
At the time of writing, these numbers may not represent a significant difference, but they certainly say a lot about the state of things for both games. While Dragon’s Dogma 2 set a lot of large expectations given its massive open-world and RPG elements, its performance issues have hindered the experience for a lot of people. Hence, the low sales may be a result of that.

At the same time, critics and fans point out how Stellar Blade has been selling well because of its art direction and character design choices. The game has been a product of controversy since day one, and opinions around it have been pretty vocal all over the internet.

In case the game ever comes out on more platforms, there’s a big chance that it will sell even more units across different countries. However, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Stellar Blade’s Successful Journey Despite the Controversy
With a user score of 9.1 on Metacritic, the game has proven that, despite being a controversial project, it’s certainly something gamers have been enjoying. Many may consider it to be PlayStation’s victory, but it’s rather an experiment of creative ideas with a blunt approach to character design.
Before the game even launched, gamers were concerned whether or not this game would actually survive critics’ opinions and controversies. As it turns out, just a simple comparison in sales with another large game is starting to prove that the IP holds immense potential.
Shift Up’s take on combat and storytelling may be something that we’ve seen in several triple-A titles before, but it’s the overall art direction that makes the game unique. Undoubtedly, the studio will innovate further and bring more games that might just break more records.
