With wild antics and full of mischievous activities, The Hangover is one of the most popular and renowned movie series that one would love to watch with their friends. Though the film has two sequels, the first film was immensely popular as it was enjoyed for its unique plot and the ability to bring something fresh to the audience. But most importantly it was the cast that made the fans enjoy the films so much.
With a plethora of scenes to laugh at in The Hangover, Ed Helms, the actor who played the role of Stu in the three films shared that the films were physically demanding, and while working in the film series alongside his co-star Bradley Cooper, he has managed to get rock-hard abs.
Ed Helms Got Rock-Hard Abs While Working in The Hangover
The Hangover is hands down the best R-rated comedy film series of all time, as the franchise had some of the funniest actors that the fans would love to see together. The cast consisted of Bradley Cooper, Ken Jeong, Todd Phillips, Ed Helms, and Jack Galifianakis who were outstanding working together.
While the film had countless hilarious scenes, Ed Helms shares that each film was physically demanding. During an exclusive interview with AV Club, The Office actor was asked if The Hangover was “a physically demanding film.” Helms answered that despite the film being physically demanding, and while working in the films he lost “eight pounds” and got rock-hard abs.
“It was incredibly physically demanding, more so than anything I’ve ever done. I lost eight pounds making this movie, and I don’t mean to brag, but I got rock-hard abs. It was actually really difficult, but it was never hard, because it was so fun.”
This information was quite surprising to hear, but not too surprising as the films did feature some of the craziest scenes that could be a part of a R-rated comedy film. Ed Helms shared an instance from the set of the movie, which was physically demanding.

Ed Helms Discusses His Roughest Day While Shooting The Hangover
In the same interview with AV Club, Ed Helms shared an episode from the set of the film which was extremely intense. The scene that he was referring to was where Mr Chow rams the car. The actor stated that shooting the scene was the most difficult part, as it was intense and they did over 10 takes, and each time getting pulled out of the window hurt a lot.
“Let’s see, the roughest day. Probably the night when Mr. Chow rams the car, and then they pull us out and rough us up. That whole night was really intense. We shot us getting hit by the car, and we did a lot of takes where the guys pull us out of the car—by the way, getting pulled out of a car hurts! Especially after the 10th time. My shins and knees were just beat to shit. They didn’t open the door and yank us out, they pulled us out the window, which is painful.”
Helms added they had also shot a scene where they were getting punched and kicked but some of them would land and they would get tossed around like ragdoll.
“This is what’s not in the movie: They beat us up. There’s a lot of punches and kicks, and even though you’re faking it, a couple things land, and with multiple takes, you’re just getting tossed around like a rag doll. That was a night shoot, and we weren’t on a night schedule, so everyone was just exhausted and fried. I’d say that was a pretty rough day. Or rough night, rather.”
The first movie was a massive hit as it grossed $465.4 million at the worldwide box office. Though a 4th film in the franchise has not been confirmed, Bradley Cooper has stated that he would do The Hangover 4 in an instant.
The Hangover can be rented on AppleTV.
