Helldivers 2 is full of surprises, and that’s pretty much the point of its crazy gameplay loop. Between the cinematic action sequences and mission objectives that keep players busy for hours, there are some insane details in this game that you may not have noticed before.
From capes burning up to stratagems taking damage, here are some of the coolest details in Helldivers 2 that might just make you love the game even more!
Explosions Leave Craters
In Helldivers 2, when you call in that sweet, sweet 500 kg bomb, you’re sort of also destroying planet’s ecosystem a little. Have a closer look next time, and you’ll notice a massive crater left at the spot where there was an explosion.
This works with most explosions and aligns with how realistic the game’s universe feels. Just be mindful of not dropping one on your close friends. This is how players end up hating each other in Helldivers 2.
The Super Earth Propaganda May Just Be Real
Next time you’re in the middle of a mission, giving enemies a taste of some ‘liber-tea’, notice the banners and billboards a bit closely. You might just find out that there were experiments conducted by the government that went horribly wrong. And now, Helldivers are sent to clean up someone else’s mess.
How messed up is that? Well, there was no trusting the opening cinematic and all the stuff that felt like propaganda to begin with. Helldivers 2 is full of secrets, and this is barely scratching the surface.
It’s a New Commanding Officer Every Time
Before players drop into a mission, there’s a Commanding Officer who gives you the, ‘Oh you better get this done‘ look. The thing is, there’s a new one every time. Well, on most days. In fact, some players even re-created certain moments from other games to remind you of your importance.
So, before you get familiar with the person who’s wishing you well for your battles, maybe don’t get too attached. Then again, that’s the philosophy for Helldivers who plan on shooting you in the face regardless of being in the same squad.
Enjoy Your Ride!
When there’s a traversal sequence between different locations, you can take a step closer to the ship’s windows and have a look outside. It’s quite impressive how you can also spot stratagems, gunfire, and explosions on the planet.
Now this is one of the ‘awareness‘ elements that makes a game feel so rich and realistic.
Stratagems Can Backfire Too
Now, as fun as it is to throw a stratagem in the face of an enemy, there’s a chance it might just… come back to you. Maybe a bullet hits it. Maybe, an Automaton shoots it back in your direction. Although the latter is less likely.
In any case, this might just make you panic a little. So, it’s best to stay cautious of things and still admire how Helldivers 2 does right by such intricate details.
Mechs Have Interesting AI
Have you ever noticed how even without a limb, mechs can actually function on their own? Sometimes, an Automaton bot can totally pilot itself and move around. It’s a little creepy but impressive at the same time.
In fact, your own mech can function without an arm, sometimes. As powerful as it may seem, it’s not completely invincible. Still, it’s strong enough to hold its own in the midst of battle.
The War Table Decisions Are in Real-Time
When you’re not the one at the War Table, make sure to take a look at all the decisions being made. The players who are in charge can obviously see it, but it’s not just limited to them. You can practically spot the globe revolving, zooming in and zooming out.
Helldivers 2 may be an exciting live-service title, but who could have thought it’s alive enough to make you feel everything that’s happening around you?
Capes Can Burn!
A neat little detail is how capes in Helldivers 2 can take damage. You’ll spot bullet holes, and sometimes it even tears off after an intense fight or so.
Even cooler is how jetpacks too affect this. You’ll notice a little burn on the cape when using your jetpack. Don’t worry, nothing is permanent here. There will be a neatly ironed cape next time you drop into a mission.
Heavy Armors Have a ‘Clank’ Sound
Unlike light and medium armor sets, the heavier ones make this sound that gives you an idea of how heavy it is. Especially when the Helldiver decides to run and dive around. It may be hard to notice in loud environments, so keep your ears open when things are a bit quiet around.
Helldivers 2 Takes Typing Seriously
Whenever you type in a command (or even chat!) for a stratagem, your Helldivers 2 character will manually type this in. The tool on the left hand is basically a little command centre, and reflects the in-game reality pretty well.
