Jackée Harry became the first ever Black actress to win the coveted award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role as Sandra Clark in the sitcom 227, back in 1987. After 35 years, Sheryl Lee Ralph became the 2nd Black woman to earn the coveted prize in the category for her role as Barbara Howard in Abbott Elementary in 2022.
Edebiri’s win is another history-making moment and also her first nomination and win. With the renewal of The Bear for a third season, audiences are excited to see more of Edebiri’s brilliance in the beloved show.
Ayo Edebiri Never Dreamed of Being at the Emmy Awards
Ayo Edebiri is the talk of the town as she has been winning awards left and right for her performance in The Bear. On the red carpet for the recent Emmy Awards, the actress expressed that her younger self never dreamed of being at something as big as the Emmys.
Edebiri hilariously told E! News that at the time, she only thought of covering all her required medical expenses including dental insurance. She said
“She didn’t dream of nights like this. She sort of dreamed of just, like, dental insurance. We’ve got dental, we’ve got eye [insurance], we’ve got ear. We can go to the dermatologist,” she continued, before advising viewers to “get that yearly check-up.”
She also nabbed the coveted Emmy and became the third Black actress ever to win in the category of Best Supporting Actress for a Comedy Series. Her unprecedented wins will pave a great future ahead for the actress and people will look forward to what the actress does next.
