Anime has taken inspiration from DC and Marvel Comics. May it be subtle plot elements like a character’s back story, powers, or some of the most iconic characters themselves. One of the intriguing examples is how not one but two characters from One Piece are inspired by the greatest villain in DC, The Joker.

Superheroes and supervillains have always been a massive part of fiction. Their influence can be felt in different media as well. A lot of them inspired anime characters, as mentioned before. Some of these characters were written even before the entire craze of Superheroes was a thing.

The world of One Piece is quite intriguing, to say the least, and the Mangaka, Eiichiro Oda, didn’t just come up with anything like comics, movies, and so forth. Fans would be surprised to know that two characters from One Piece are inspired by the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker, in the Batman series. Those two characters were  Caesar and Donquixote, who surprisingly used the alias “Joker.”

These two also made the fake smile devil fruit, which resulted in people using it to smile perpetually, similar to Joker’s Laughing Gas. While Caesar resonated more with Joker’s past, Donquixote aligned with Joker’s modern time. Donquixote and Joker wanted to instigate chaos in a world that was already blighted with chaos and wanted to see the world burn.

Donquixote Doflamingo was the captain of the Donquixote Pirates and was nicknamed “Heavenly Yaksha.” He used to be one of the Seven Warlords before his imprisonment with a frozen bounty of 340,000,000. He was also the most powerful underworld broker who went by the alias, “Joker.”

He was a major villain in the Marineford Arc. He participated in the Summit War of Marineford and was on the same side as the Marines, accompanied by most other Warlords of the Sea. He was also the main villain in the Dressrosa Arc.

Caesar Clown is also known as “Master” and is a scientist in charge of operating chemical weapons of mass destruction and one of the co-founders of NEO MADS. He used to be colleagues with Vegapunk and Vinsmoke Judge, having worked alongside them in MADS.

Along with Vegapunk, Caesar was recruited into the World Government, and both of these individuals worked at Punk Hazard, an island where the latter was annihilated by a toxic gas explosion. This event got him a bounty of 300,000,000. Caesar continued his illegal experiments on the island in secrecy before the Straw Hat Pirates and Trafalgar Law defeated him.
