Live-action adaptations of famous video game series are often something producers use to give a fresh feeling to the franchise. Unfortunately, these adaptations haven’t particularly been successful, and that is due to many different causes, one of them being the choice of cast.
Disappointment is a recurring term when it comes to adaptations of video games into a movie or a series, and it becomes even more saddening when it features a cast of renowned actors such as Dwayne Johnson. Dwayne Johnson As Davis Okoye In Rampage Video Game’s Adaptation
Released in 2018, Rampage is a movie that is based on a game franchise with the same name and focuses on a character called Davis Okoye, which is the role Dwayne Johnson was cast for. The movie, like the game, features giant mutated animals that cause chaos in the city of Chicago after a genetic experiment goes wrong.

The film also covers the bond between Okoye and George, a gorilla that the main protagonist has a connection with but is unfortunately one of the mutated animals. Making George and the other animals return to their original state is the primary focus of Okoye in the movie as he teams up with others to come up with a cure.
The movie was unfortunately not received well, as indicated by a rating of 6.1 on IMDb. The ultimate reason for the movie’s failure was the absence of an intriguing plot or an interesting script that would keep the watcher invested. What the fans got instead was dialogues that felt bland and plain accompanied by an abuse of CGI used to bring the adaptation to life.
Dwayne Johnson As Sarge In Doom
Doom has been a revolutionary franchise when it comes to the gaming industry, and many modern titles owe their success to it. It is called to be the pioneer of first-person shooter games and many other elements of gaming which it introduced with its very first release in 1993. The game was also adapted into a live-action movie which came out in 2005, starring Dwayne Johnson as Sarge as well as Karl Urban as John Grimm.
It is one of the earliest movies that the renowned actor has done in his career, but as with other live-action adaptations, it did not meet the expectations the fans held as it failed to show any connection with the source material itself. With a rating of 5.2 on IMDb, it is a film that meets the stereotypes of what live-action adaptations are supposed to be like.
Although live-action adaptations have faced criticism in recent years, there’s luckily improvement in this field lately. A perfect example is the TV adaptation of The Last of Us video game series, which has been received well by fans ever since its debut.
