Naruto is one of the most popular Shonen anime, and for good reason. From well-developed characters to amazing backstories, Masashi Kishimoto knows how to please fans. Yet, there have been brainfart moments in the anime that have become universal meme materials.

Some scenes in the anime are so ill-planned that the plot hole is as glaring as headlamps at night. These scenes have often prompted fans to question if Studio Pierrot animators had even read Naruto before storyboarding.

#4 Tenten Blindfolding Neji

In one Naruto episode, Tenten blindfolded Neji, and ever since then, it has been a source of laughter for fans. Neji is a proficient user of Byakugan, an ability that granted him a nearly 360° penetrative field of vision. A small blindspot existed in his back, which Neji was well aware of. Byakugan helps the user see through solid objects, and Neji can even use a telescopic sight.

This is what has made Tenten’s decision to put a covering over Neji’s eyes seem so silly. His eyesight can easily see through a flimsy piece of cloth, which makes the scene utterly useless.

#3 Kurenai Using Genjutsu on Itachi

In order to win against Itachi, Kurenai used genjutsu against the Uchiha. Fans were too stunned by the scene because Itachi is an absolute master at Genjutsu and using it on him would be redundant. However, Kurenai might not be at fault here.

Itachi could be a genjutsu master, but Kurenai had no way of knowing about his powers beforehand unless she could read detailed records of his abilities. So, Kurenai used the best weapon in her arsenal. Knowing genjutsu doesn’t make anyone immune to other genjutsu attacks, so Kurenai was on the right track.

#2 Danzo Using a Kunai on Susanoo

Susanoo is a humongous humanoid avatar made by using chakra, and it is an ability passed down in the Uchiha Clan. Susanoo acts as a shield against physical attacks, and its complete manifestation is extremely difficult to penetrate. So when Danzo used a kunai to stab Sasuke’s Susanoo, the result was obvious.

Fans have called out Danzo on the matter since a mere kunai is extremely ineffective against the mighty Susanoo form. However, you have to remember that using the kunai was a last-ditch effort on Danzo’s part. He had to test with everything he had, to know what would work on the Susanoo.

#1 Sakura Stating She Caught up to Naruto and Sasuke

This is considered the biggest joke in the Naruto fandom. Sakura is definitely strong, and could have become even stronger than Tsunade at some point. But being on par with Naruto and Sasuke is a bit too delusional. Sakura was able to fight alongside her peers, but she was never as powerful.

Of course, catching up to Naruto and Sasuke is not all about power equations. After her Byakugo was activated, she fought alongside the two, helping them when they needed her rather than leaving the duo to fend for themselves.

You can read Naruto on Viz Media and watch the anime on Crunchyroll.
