There are films that we like and watch and then there are some movies that have changed the face of the whole movie industry. Speaking of which, it always reminds us of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Each franchise has impacted the cinema on a large scale and has always been a hit and a blockbuster. But have they won any Oscars?

These movies are not just fan favorites but have created a record in being a whopping 5 Billion Dollar Movie Franchise. From the first-ever adventures and tales of any of these movies, one would be hard-pressed to find anything like this. Most importantly none of their installments have performed less for when it comes to critics or audiences.

5 Billion Dollar Movie Franchise Defining a Generation

Every generation had its own franchise that ruled and is still lasting enough. Star Wars ruled the 80’s era while Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were in the head game for the 00’s game.  Although LOTR ended in just three years, Harry Potter dragged its fandom till 2011 with its final installment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two.

One can also say that the wizardly franchise is still being kept alive with the Fantastic Beasts movie series which introduces the young character from Daniel Radcliffe’s movie series. The first ever Star Wars was released in 1977 and still sets an example by being the most accomplished space opera. The genre is best followed by movies like Star Trek and now the Timothée Chalamet starrer and Denis Villeneuve epic film series Dune. Similarly, LOTR also came up with a different timeline with its movie series The Hobbit and now the OTT series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

When we look at the franchises today, there is MCU, James Bond, and Indiana Jones with a number of installments competing with the aforementioned three epic tales of Lord of the Rings. Yes, the LOTR movie series has only three chapters that have excellence more than par.

Movie Franchise that won the most Oscars

Starting with Harry Potter, although the film series has won a BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema and been nominated 12 times throughout the eight movies, it has never won an Academy Award.

Whilst, the 1977 original Star Wars won the Oscars for Original Score, Costume Design, Art Direction, Sound, Film Editing, as well as for Visual Effects. Moving ahead The Empire Strikes Back later won an Oscar for Best Sound. The first three Star Wars movies have also been awarded with Special Achievement as the original trilogy, making it a total of 10 Oscars for a franchise. 

Then comes the humongous wins by Lord of the Rings at the Oscars. The Fellowship of the Ring movie won awards for Makeup, Cinematography, Original Score, and Visual Effects making it four Oscars. While The Two Towers won two awards. These were for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. 

Ok now wait! And hold on to your counts, The Return of the King actually did make history. The movie won a total of 11 Oscars for Visual Effects, Costume Design,  Makeup, Original Score, Original Song, Sound Mixing, Art Direction, Adapted Screenplay, Director, Film Editing, and one for the Coveted Best Picture prize.

We might see more of these franchises coming back to life as LOTR is back with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series and so does Star Wars with a number of alternate timelines explaining and defining each character of the epic space tales. 

Moreover, Harry Potter will soon be getting a reboot and its own series which was recently announced by Warner Bros. Let’s see if it stays up to the mark or makes everyone turn back to their old and everloving franchise.
