Love and romance may not be a particularly prominent topic in the anime industry, but it still has a lot of impact, and the storylines of many anime series and movies have been based around it. Anime couples have been a huge hit on social media as it brings a sense of satisfaction for fans to see two of their favorite characters of the opposite gender end up together.

While there have been a lot of couples who have been successful in the anime world, there are some who might not have been that much appreciated because of some kind of issue in the relationship or within the characters. They usually end up being one-sided which brings sadness to their fans.

Among these couples, five anime couples have been regarded as the peak of a failed relationship or are not appreciated by the fans because they are developed in the story. Also, these toxic anime couples make single anime fans feel better about themselves.

1. Light and Misa

Light Yagami and Misa Amane are a highly contentious pair in Death Note. They agree to begin a relationship since Light requires her. Most fans of Death Note will concur that Light Yagami and Misa Amane’s relationship is the most toxic and troublesome in the entire series. It is undeniable that Light and Misa form a horrible couple, even if their relationship is crucial to the story.

Misa’s devotion to Light gives an incorrect assumption of what kind of relationships should be mutually respectful. They are unquestionably one of the most awful shonen pairings of all time, and fans have multiple times claimed that Misa deserves someone a lot better than Light.

2. Yukiteru and Yuno Gasai

Anime viewers have long detested Yukiteru Amano and Yuno Gasai’s compulsive love for one another, which is the focus of Future Diary. Yuno is a compulsive stalker who has killed several people in the name of Yukiteru because of her intense love for him. Despite being aware of all of this, Yukiteru decides to remain with her.

Yuno is so obsessive that she despises a girl who merely looks at Yuki. Although she gives off the impression of being kind and innocent, she is a sociopath whose only objective in life is to ensure that she and Yuki survive by eliminating the other Future Diary holders.

3. Sasuke and Sakura

Sasuke and Sakura are among the most despised anime couples in Naruto. Since she was a young child, Sakura has loved Sasuke, despite Sasuke’s great coldness toward her. Their relatively new romance is difficult from the beginning and progressively gets worse as the narrative goes on.

Sakura has an unhealthy bond with Sasuke despite the numerous crimes he commits. The series doesn’t see an improvement in their relationship, and at one point Sasuke even attempts to kill Sakura. Given the nature of their connection at first, fans didn’t think they would end up together, and many view them as the worst coupling in the series.

4. Ichigo and Orihime

Orihime and Ichigo might look good but the power balance between the two makes their relationship weak and one-sided. While Orihime has expressed her feelings quite a few times in the anime, she has never directly talked to Ichigo about it. And Ichigo on the other hand neither has any clue, nor does he show any sign of having feelings for her.

Initially, fans used to think that Ichigo might end up with another main female character Rukia, but that theory too was left behind at the beginning of the series. While there has been no official tag given to their relationship, fans don’t think that Ichigo will end up with Orihime in the future.

5. Goku and Chichi

Throughout the Dragon Ball universe, Goku and Chi-Chi stand out as one of the most iconic pairs. That said, their relationship is incredibly imbalanced. Chi-Chi continues to rage at Goku over trivial matters, and Goku makes decisions without consideration for Chi-Chi or her feelings. Goku frequently disregards his wife and their family, making their marriage not the happiest.

However, fans still sometimes find them an interesting couple because they have been together for the longest time. It feels like a pretty toxic relationship and probably the worst in the Dragon Ball franchise.
