Jennifer Lopez is one celebrity who has navigated a singing and acting career seamlessly and with equal success. The sensual star has proved her versatility by taking on roles in different genres from drama to action to comedy. Lopez has also worked with an array of co-stars, including many veteran actors in Hollywood. In 2005, the Jenny from the Block singer starred with one of America’s most seasoned and loved actors Jane Fonda, in the romantic comedy Monster-in-Law.
In the film, Lopez and Fonda play bickering future daughter-in-law and mother-in-law who try to one-up each other constantly. The film required both celebrities to have physical cat fights as well. One scene saw the Enough actor getting into character a bit too much during a series of slaps that actually landed up hurting Fonda. The 86-year-old Oscar winner took it in her stride and jokingly trolled Lopez for not apologizing for the mishap.
When Jennifer Lopez Attacked Jane Fonda On Screen
Many times, the experiences shared with co-stars while filming a movie become memorable and unforgettable. Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda will always recall their work together in the 2005 romantic comedy Monster-in-Law. The story required both actors to be at complete loggerheads with each other and included a few scenes of physical attack as well.
In one chaotic segment, Lopez and Fonda exchange a series of slaps that slowly got out of hand. As filming began, the Oscar-winning veteran revealed that Lopez got a bit carried away in the moment. Her enthusiasm led to her accidentally injuring Fonda on her face with her ring during the slapping session. In an appearance at The Drew Barrymore Show, the Coming Home actor looked back at the incident and jokingly called out her co-star for her action.
“We have a slapping scene. I slap her, she slaps me, I slap her… Well, Jennifer, she had this enormous diamond ring. And so when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye. My eyebrow. She’s never apologized”.
As it turned out, the accidental injury did not do much damage, and Jane Fonda took the whole incident very sportingly and in good humor. Monster-in-Law went on to become a box office success mainly due to the chemistry between the Lopez and Fonda.
Jennifer Lopez Is A Razzie Nominee Again
It’s hard to imagine that a star with soaring popularity and a plethora of awards in the music and acting field like Jennifer Lopez can also be seen as someone who can perform under par. But that is exactly the case with her nomination in the Razzies 2024, in which she is up for the Worst Acting Performance of 2023 for The Mother. While the film’s narrative received flak for its unimpressive storyline, Lopez’s portrayal of a pregnant contract killer did not touch a chord with even the most ardent fans of the singer-actor.
Surprisingly, Lopez has been previously nominated a whopping 9 times for a Razzie and has won two of those awards, which ironically came for her collaboration with her husband Ben Affleck. The couple who were previously engaged in 2002 were dubiously awarded the worst screen couple for Gigli while Lopez also took home the Razzie for Worst Acting Performance in the same film. With The Mother receiving only a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the singer will be hoping that she can escape being a Razzie winner this time around.
