On Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Office star disclosed the reality of the diet and the training regimen that he had to follow to get in shape for Michael Bay’s 2016 biographical action-thriller film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. In the movie, Krasinski plays the role of a former US Navy SEAL, Jack Silva. You can only imagine what the actor went through to ensure his physique was in tip-top shape for the part.

The Hollywood star stated in the interview that the film is based on an “incredible true story” and that he was blessed to have met the person his character is about. The talk show host then brought up the subject of John Krasinski‘s diet and workout routine. Kimmel prefaced it in the following manner:

Krasinski admitted, “It’s true. We didn’t have any fun. I just came over and drank water at your house,” The talk show host then asked the Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan alum what his workout routine for the endeavor entailed. The actor began by explaining the food items that comprised his diet: water, salads, and chicken. He then stated that he had to work out six days a week, twice daily. With the help of his trainer, Jason Walsh, he managed to adhere to the routine.

However, as the actor subsequently claimed, the procedure was not altogether trouble-free.

Krasinski was preparing to begin a regular gym regimen when he was surprised with an unexpected twist. The actor’s trainer told him to pull a sled from one spot to another instead of doing bench presses. He believed the procedure was too easy at first. However, Krasinski quickly realized the excruciating nature of his new routine. Following is how he detailed the incident:

“I was like, ‘Let’s do it! Let’s get the bench press going.’ and he’s like, ‘No, you’re going to drag that sled from there to there. I was like, ‘How hard is that?’ I’m having a heart attack! It was so awful.”

The actor concluded by stating that by the time the film began shooting, his body fat percentage had dropped from 25% to 9%. The results of his efforts are evident in the Michael Bay-helmed premise that amassed a worldwide gross of $69.4 million against a budget of $50 million. There is little doubt that John Krasinski is one of our generation’s most dedicated and skilled performers.
