Assassin’s Creed Protagonists: A Ranking from Worst to Best
Assassin’s Creed has always aimed to provide us with characters that are unique and lovable. However, let’s be real: not all of them manage to achieve that. Some of these characters can be quite dull or even outright unpleasant. On the other hand, some quickly become beloved by fans due to their relatability and the presence they bring to the story.

Let’s take a closer look at these protagonists (mainline only), but keep in mind that these rankings are all in good fun.
14. Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad
Altaïr, the very first assassin we played in the series, holds status without a doubt. However, let’s be honest, he starts out as kind of a jerk. The game forces him to face challenges, pushing him to develop as a person. In the first original Assassin’s Creed, he truly earns his likability through his journey.
13. Desmond Miles
The modern-day part of Assassin’s Creed can be hit or miss, and Desmond Miles, our anchor in that world, is no different. Some of us think he’s kind of bland, while others appreciate his role in tying the historical stories together.
12. Layla Hassan
Layla Hassan, introduced in AC: Origins, is like Marmite – you either love her or find her annoying. Her behavior can seem selfish and inconsistent to some, but to others, that’s what makes her intriguing compared to her predecessors.
11. Connor Kenway
The Serious Revolutionary Connor, the star of Assassin’s Creed III, gets mixed reviews. Some folks admire his gentle nature and the way he deals with racial themes in the game. But let’s be honest, stepping into his shoes after Ezio isn’t easy, and his impulsive tendencies can be a bit much.
10. Arno Dorian
Arno Dorian, the main character in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, has divided opinions among fans. Some find his compassionate yet imperfect nature charming, while others consider him a bit self-absorbed and disorganized.
9. Shay Cormac
The Templar Turncoat, Shay Cormac, is a unique protagonist, as he’s the first historical one to join the Templars. He brings some interesting conflict to the table, but his character might feel a bit familiar to some.
8. Eivor
The Viking with Principles Eivor from Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is a Viking with a moral compass. They’re not into gratuitous cruelty and prefer doing right by their clan. They might not be the most standout characters, but they’ve got their fans.
7. Jacob Frye/Evie Frye
Jacob Frye, one of the twins featured in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, brings a thrill to his personality that distinguishes him from the main character.

In contrast, Evie Frye, his accomplice, stands out because of her resolve and impeccable sense of style. These characteristics make her a relatable character with whom we can all easily identify.
6. Alexios/Kassandra
In the game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players have to choose between two characters, Alexios and Kassandra. However, it’s quite evident that many gamers find Kassandra more appealing compared to Alexios. This preference is mainly because of concerns related to Alexios voice acting and character design.

On the other hand, Kassandra stands out as a protagonist, with a unique design, exceptional voice acting, and the important role of being the game’s canonical main character, but hey it’s up to you. Alexios is also great.
5. Edward Kenway
Edward Kenway, the main character in Assassin’s Creed IV; Black Flag, holds a cherished position among fans. Not only does Edward exude charisma, but his journey of redemption also deeply touches players on a personal level. It’s impossible to resist rooting for him as he confronts the obstacles of his past and strives towards a future.
2. Bayek of Siwa
Bayek of Siwa was the founder and responsible for establishing the Hidden Ones, the predecessors of the Assassin Brotherhood. Driven by a desire for justice and retribution following his son’s murder, he embarks on a journey that ultimately gives rise to the renowned Creed of the Hidden Ones. Bayek’s captivating personality and his genuine interactions with others solidify his status as a character.
1. Ezio Auditore de Firenze
Here we have the champion, none other, than Ezio Auditore de Firenze, who takes the crown as the most iconic protagonist, in Assassin’s Creed. He possesses a charm with layers of emotions and relatability. Starting as a youth and evolving into a mentor Ezios character growth is truly remarkable. He has become the embodiment of Assassin’s Creed that we all recognize and connect with.
