One Piece, the renowned anime and manga series created by Eiichiro Oda, was adapted as a live-action series by Netflix and was a huge success, leaving fans demanding more and eagerly waiting for Season 2. The most significant achievement of the series was the proper casting of the actors for the characters, who represented their roles flawlessly. Among the cast, Emily Rudd was one of the most loved actors as she played the role of Nami, the navigator of the Straw hat crew.
Rudd was loved by the fans as she was spot-on in her portrayal of the character Nami, and this is mostly because she understood the role deeply. She even stated that Nami has been one of the most important members of the crew and she is probably the brains of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Emily Rudd Believes Straw Hat Pirates Would be Nothing Without Her
While talking to GamesRadar+, Rudd explained how she was born to play Nami as she understood the character deeply. When asked about what she thinks defines Nami, she stated that she is clever and because of that she might be the brains of the crew. She said:
“I would say, clever. I think she’s the brains of the bunch. You know, she’s keeping the boys in line. And she’s a cat burglar, so she knows how to pull the wool over people’s eyes. I think she’s protective, not only of her crew members but of herself, especially during the East Blue Saga.”
According to her, Nami keeps the rest of the crew in line. Also, she is protective and cares about her friends which helps her deal with situations that are in the best interest of the crew.
Emily Rudd Thinks Nami is a Caring Person
Rudd also stated that although she is clever and sees most of the stuff logically, she is also a very protective and loving person. She understands when she is doing something wrong and feels bad about it. She said:
“You know, she keeps some secrets, she keeps her cards close to her chest. So she’s protective. And… I would say, loving, I think, even when it seems like she’s doing something that could be harmful to people, the undercurrent and the true reason behind it is love. And so I think she is a deeply caring person. So those three.”
Nami’s character was brilliantly defined by Rudd which explains that she understands the character to a great depth and this is why her portrayal of Nami was spot on. The fans loved her in season 1 and can’t wait to see her magic in season 2.
