Not The Marvels, but it’s Loki season 2 finale that provides much-needed hope for Marvel Studios. The phenomenal finale establishes Loki as the most powerful superhero in the MCU. As the episode title indicates, Loki has found his glorious purpose, but it comes at a great cost. The God of Mischief has transformed into the God of Stories, ascending to his lonely throne for eternity and leaving behind all his friends.
This version of Loki serves as the anchor holding together the multiverse, and not even Thor’s most powerful God form would stand a chance against him. However, the trickster God has also abandoned his evil ways, becoming a champion of free will for different branches of the timeline.
Loki Has Become MCU’s Most Powerful Superhero
Loki season 2 explores Tom Hiddleston‘s titular character and the TVA attempting to manage the growing timelines after He Who Remains was killed in the Season One finale. With Loki’s newfound ability of time-slipping, he discovers that the infinitely branching timelines will inevitably blow up the Temporal Loom, killing all the timelines. Loki travels back in time to the Season One finale encounter where He Who Remains gives him two options – kill Sylvie and accept the sacred timeline, or face the impending doom of countless timelines.
However, Loki finds a third option that makes He Who Remains irrelevant and saves Sylvie and all other timelines. The God of Mischief sacrifices himself as the protector of the timelines, replacing the Temporal Loom. In the final scenes of Episode 6, Loki uses his magic to split open the Temporal Loom and take its place while holding the timeline branches in the palm of his hands.
The branches glow in green as Loki provides life to these branches, forming a tree shape that closely resembles the World Tree, Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology. By holding the multiversal branches together, Loki has transformed into the literal God of Stories, physically holding the stories of different universes in his hands.
This power makes him an entity beyond the multiverse, somewhat similar to the Beyonder in Marvel Comics. The Beyonder is a cosmic entity that manipulates the universes in the multiverse and plays a significant role in Secret Wars comics. With Avengers: Secret Wars announced as the finale to the Multiverse Saga, the Asgardian might play a major role.
Why Is Loki More Powerful Than The Most Powerful God Of Thunder Version?
Like Loki, the God of Thunder Thor found his glorious purpose after agreeing to take care of Love, Gorr’s daughter. Both Gods have chosen their own paths by making certain sacrifices. It is unlikely that they will ever come face to face again. However, even the most powerful God form of Thor that fans got to witness in Thor: Ragnarok would be a match for the God of Time.
The God of Stories is integral to the stability of the world in which Thor exists. Loki has literally lived through centuries, trying to make Victor Timely’s Throughput Multiplier work, which means he has perfected his time-slipping ability. This power alone, allowing him to travel to any point in time in any universe, makes him undefeatable. However, the biggest threat to Thor, or any Avengers, is Kang.
