Ahead of Black Adam’s release in October 2022, Dwayne Johnson had revealed his plans for a sequel story. The actor wished to develop his own chapter within the DC Universe and also pushed for Henry Cavill’s return as Superman. Willing to have a crossover between the two characters, Johnson even featured Cavill’s Superman in the post-credit scenes.

However, on a more recent note, since Henry Cavill’s exit from DC, it appears that the Superman crossover in Black Adam is nearly impossible. But, there’s another DC actor who’s willing to feature in Dwayne Johnson’s sequel. DC’s Peacemaker John Cena has expressed his desire to reunite with his former WWE rival in the DCEU.

Dwayne Johnson Wanted Henry Cavill in Black Adam Sequel 

Way before Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam hit the theatres in October 2022, the actor had expressed his desire to carry on his DC role into another installment. Ahead of the film’s release, the actor had discussed his plans for a sequel story and also expressed his desire to feature an epic crossover with Henry Cavill’s Superman.

In an attempt to make a smooth way of introducing a crossover, Dwayne Johnson also featured Henry Cavill’s Superman in Black Adam’s post-credit scenes. However, later plans changed as Black Adam suffered a major loss after it failed to release in China. Further, even Henry Cavill announced his exit from DC and saddened his fans.

Johnson expressed his grief over Henry Cavill‘s exit from DC especially since he had plans for the actor in his Black Adam sequel. Although he left fans excited for more Superman appearances in the future, Johnson is left with no options for a crossover between his character and Cavill’s Man of Steel. But someone other than the British actor expressed interest in joining the Black Adam sequel.

John Cena Appears Interested in Dwayne Johnson’s Sequel

According to recent reports from People, former WWE champion John Cena who ventured into Hollywood and then DC as Peacemaker, expressed his desire to reunite with his wrestling rival. Willing to share the screen with Dwayne Johnson in his Black Adam sequel, Cena shared his opinion and desires during an interview.

I’ll say the same thing every time with possibilities in the sort of universe… it would be an honor and a privilege to be able to perform with him. I think there still is a passionate marketplace that wants to see him in.” 

Stating that he would be honored to star alongside Dwayne Johnson, John Cena later mentioned that he is undoubtedly willing to be a part of Black Adam, but unfortunately, it’s beyond his control. Discussing how it’s under the DC heads to confirm if he might get an opportunity in Johnson’s sequel or not, Cena stated,

I’m sorry, man, that’s just not my choice so I don’t know. It’s so far beyond me. It’s beyond what I’m able to control.” 

Unfortunately, despite Dwayne Johnson’s desire for another installment and John Cena’s willingness to appear in it, the Black Adam sequel got canned. According to Johnson, due to a “vortex of new leadership” at Warner Bros and DC, his sequel got shelved and might never see the light of day.
